Can someone please help me, I am I think about 6-7 months since my last relaxer and I have NO idea what to do with this hair.....Most of the time I co-wash (maybe every other day) then I pull it back into a pony or bun. I have tried braid/twist-outs and I do not know how to do them and I dont have that much money to go to the salon. Did any of you have this dilemma becuase I dont know what to do. I know this is probaly not the best thing to do and I think it is causing breakage. Does ANYONE have any advice for me at this point!!!:wallbash:

Have you tried rollersets? They worked nicely on my hair at 5-8 months post.

Also, what went wrong with your braidouts? I'm not a twistout person because I just don't have the skill, but with practice, I was able to get excellent braidouts.

If it's really stressing you, you may want to consider getting braids. I know that would cost money, but you would be able to leave it up for a while and not be bothered with your hair.

HTH

I'm at 10 weeks post and I've been cowashing everyday also. I have a lot of growth which I'm excited about but it doesn't lay straight after a day. If I put my hair up with a phony pony I get one day out of it. If I pull it back into a loose bun I get two. If I twistout and pull it back I can get several days b/c all my hair will be fluffy, lol!

I am also trying to transition and if it gets really hard I might get a cornrowed bun. Just hang in there girl, it will be allright!

I'm at 6 months now... Last time I transitioned for 7 months then broke down and relaxed. This time it's much easier, but I've chosen to wear braids this summer to get me over the 7 month itch this time.

I personally flat iron my hair when it's not braided, so that may be why it's been easier. You will definitely have to keep good moisturizing practices to help with breakage. I haven't really been to the salon this time during transition (only because I hate stylist complaining about my "thick" roots ). I've been flat ironing myself with my CHI and would say I'm fairly good at it now and get salon quality results with no hair damage so far. I still only use heat ONLY every 2 weeks.

Before the braids, if I weren't straightened, I wore buns and twist outs. I don't really know what other styles you can do if you are not for using heat. Have you tried roller sets or bantu knots?

I transitioned for 10 months and I kept my hair in braids so I didn't have to do a ponytail or a bun.. I am also hair style illiterate... it really helped it grow and I barely had any breakage.. HTH

i have been transitioning for like 9 months now and i havent had a problem becuase i always rollerset and flat iron the roots. right now im on a ponytail regi for a month so i will still rollerset and maybe wear my hair down for a day and then ponytails for the entire week until i wash again.

Thanks everyone I was thinking about going to a natural hair salon and maybe they can give me tips on doing my hair myself. I dont know bantu knots and for some reason my braidouts dont turn out right so I think I will just calm down and learn my hair lol hopefully I will pick up soon THANKS LADIES!!!!!

I'm at week 12 of my transition and a bit scared about what is to come. So far no breakage and my roots are manageable after 20+ years of relaxers so dealing with my roots without relaxers is new. I touch my scalp and think I have a scalp bump but it's just my natural hair! Have to continue doing what I'm doing...moisturizing shampoos, conditioners, deep conditioning and lessening the fear of the unknown. Thinking about getting cornrows and a consultation at a natural salon...my self cornrows are a mess.

I'm in Month 13. So far I've worn buns, phony ponys, a sew-in, and kinky twists. I'm going to buy some rollers and practice roller setting my hair. At month 18 I'm going to start flat ironing every 3 months and trimming.

look in my fotki for bantu knots. what do you mean the braidouts dont turn out right?

my favorites are flat ironing (off limits this month), twistouts, braidouts, braids, buns, bantu knots...i'm about to get some two-strand twists...then some kinky twists. i am in my 12th month of this thing and from these styles i have lost a lot of the itch i had to BC.

I feel your pain. I started transitioning in April. I'm not at home at the moment where I can always get my hair done free or cheap and wasn't willing to pay £50 to braid my hair. I had watched my friends to it, so i decided to do it myself. I was good, took me 18 hours though and only lasted 6 weeks, lol. Anyway, not doing that again.
Like someone said, Ithink the best think to do is keep your hair in protective styles, braids, sew-ins, twists etc. That way you don't have to worry about manipulation for a a while. What's your stand on wigs? That could be another escape route. You want to minimise manipulation because while transitioning your hair is alot more prone to breakage.
