hello Ladies,

I am dealing with two long hair girls that went swimming and ended up with a knotted, matted mess.
What can I do next time to prevent hair from tangling.
I mean they each looked as if their hair had lock.

Or even two braids. Hey a friend of mine still uses a swimming cap, but I doubt that kids would be caught dead wearing this!!!

My girl's hair is long and wavy/curly, and it swells up in pool water.

One or two braids is okay, but not too many as they are harder to unravel after swimming. But definately put it into a ponyail with a plait or two. I coat my daughter's hair with an instant conditioner like Sauve Humectress the day she will be swimming to prevent as much chlorine penetration.

I usually shampoo right afterwards if possible with Aubrey's swim shampoo,"deep" condition for 10 mins. while she plays in the tub with GPB or a dominican conditioner, and follow with a conditioner with a LOT of slip--Pantene's S&S,L'oreal LUST.

Tangling can be a big prob. I'd love to hear more suggestions.

I was a teen with long, carefree curl hair participating in swim team practice twice a day.

It was a HOT mess. Here's what me and my mom learned:

1)you cannot keep your hair dry if you are a hard swimmer - even just kicking and playing around will get your hair faily wet around the nape and edges. So expect to wash.

2)That said, have her pre-soak her hair with tap water, then follow with a conditioner. Or you can even pre-soak with a conitioner - I used cheapies back then, you might use something thin with olive oil in it, like a pre-poo! This step has your hair saturated with regular water or conditioners, not chlorine.

3)put a swim cap on to secure the hair. The cap can be difficult to stay on if you used conditioner, so you may just soak with water...it's good to have a cap to keep hair in place.

4)After the swim, rinse and shampoo. If she is to swim everyday or very often, I think c/o washes are good, with a good shampoo with Aloe Rid or such swimmer's shampoo once a week, follwed by a good deep conditioner.

I was a lifeguard in the water for four hours teaching, would have to get out then back in again. I wouldn't even bother shampooing my hair after the first round; I would just leave the conditioner in all day.

I lost a lot of hair when I was a kid, please have her pre-soak her hair that is most important! HTH :D

You may want to check Walmart for swim caps
they have them for 99 cents in the toy dept of the store(for 99cents if they don't wear them you haven't really lost any money)
they come in pretty bright colors(pink, yellow, blue) they fit my 8yr old and my cousins age 14,16,and 20 because the caps stretch
My daughter has caps to match each of her swimsuits
Modells has white speedo swim caps from youth sizes to adult
They make swim caps for kids that are very cute nowdays not an old lady type thing
when my kids go to the neighborhood pool most all of the girls are wearing them even the teens
I put a small stocking cap under the swim cap so it doesn't catch her hair when I pull it off
the cap keeps the water out you can't even tell she went in the pool when she's done

Thanks ladies,
We are vacationing and they want to swim everyday.
I preconditioned/saturated hair with oil and conditioner and put in three braids.
What a difference!! Hair slipped out like and charm and no tangles at all.
Thank you!
