So me and hubby are re-newing our vows on Wednesday (yes, FOUR days from now!).

So anyway, I've been calling my stylist trying to get ahold of her to see if she can do something with me. She's not returning my calls. In the spirit of "full disclosure", I haven't gone to her in over a year, because I've kinda found my groove, AND I have you guys - so who needs a stylist, anyway?!

I think she might be taking it personal, hence the "cold shoulder" right now. But I'm kinda desperate. We live in Hawaii, so there's not really anyone here that does black hair - but her. On top of all that, I'm about 6 months into a transition, so I'm feeling a little intimidated about having to "go it alone". I mean, I have waited 15 YEARS to have a proper wedding (we did Justice of the Peace), so I don't wanna be looking all busted in my wedding photos. :nono:

Please yall, tell me what to do!!!! I need a classy up-do -STAT!

If it's long enough you could slick it up, straighten the length, make big curls and then pin them up something like this, (minus the part.)

This could also work if your hair is curly

Maybe spice it up with some baby's breath.

If your hair is long enough to pull some medium sized twists into a nice high bun and put some flowers or jewels around the top bun part that may be nice :).
If not you could always pull it up and use a half wig or phony pony to glam it up.

bingo i think the last pic she posted would be lovely with flowers with ur real hair or wig

Thanks, yall! My hair is BSL, but I have about 3 in. of new growth!! I'm gonna have to wake my husband up so I can throw some pics on here to show yall what I'm working with. :nono:

I don't think I can pull off that one with the part on the side (too much NG)

How can I achieve that Janet Jackson? That one might work.

Also, I will have a floral lei on my head (a crown of flowers). Do yall think the lei will look better with curls hanging down, or an updo?

Thank yall soooooo much!!! I love yall! :yep:

ITA with the above posters, but we need to know what your hair is like right now before we can really help with a plan of action. Although, I must say, the updo pics flowinlocks posted are pretty on point, and they all look like something that you can do yourself. Congrats, BTW!

Flowin locks,

I finally went back and read where you actually said "minus the part". I was reading so fast, I overlooked it. See, I told yall my nerves was bad right now! :lachen:

I would scrunch the front with a little gel, then slick it up, set the ponytail on perm rods or, even eaiser buy a curly phony pony and skip the setting part. I think a crown of flowers would be beautiful with this style.:yep:

I don't know if you have time but ask around. I live in Florida but I wanted a Vegas wedding. I had my hair pinned up 3 days before the wedding. On the day of my wedding, it was not so great. I picked up the Vegas Yellow pages and went to work. I called around until I found someone to pin it back up (micro braids). Where there is a will there is a way. If you can't find someone and you are open to it- get a nice lace front wig. Relax and enjoy yourself. My husband told ne something the day of the wedding when I was nervous about my hair. He said "I'm not marrying you for your hair, you can shave it off and I will still love you". Remember this man loves you for way more than your hair. You know that because he's reaffirming it. Goodluck.

MarieB,

That's a good point. I have to wait until morning so DH can take pics of my hair. Then yall will be able to give me specific feedback and tips. Thanks!

Agreed!!!! That Janet style is very lovely and classy. Plus, the lei can help camouflage the line of demarcation (if you have one).

Congrats, Southern Belle! You'll be beautiful!

I love that first and last style! I say that since it may come down to you doing it yourself,do a test first.
Don't wait until the main day to take on your hair, without knowing what to expect.
It may give you a chance to iron out any little glitches that may pop up when you are doing it for the big day,the sequel:grin:
Congrats as well op!

I was thinking the exact same thing.

QueenNefi/ Flowinlocks,

That's actually a HUGE part of the problem. I live on a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean where women grow butt-length hair without even trying. There's not really a demand here for fake hair of any kind. :nono:

Whenever I need hair, I have to order it online from the mainland, and the mail is slllooooowwwww. Even FedEx takes 5-7 days. :nono:

Yall, I actually contemplated taking a flight up to LA ( a FIVE hour flight!) just to get my hair done. But even if I fly up there, I don't know ANYTHING about which salon to go to. :nono:

DH said yesterday "babe, you fly anyway - hair, or no..." He honestly doesn't see the big deal.

But I really wanted him to see me looking like a princess on such a special day. I don't want "close enough", I want "second to none", know what I mean? :nono:

You are not only his Princess, you are his Queen. Wash it, Blowdry it, flat iron (especially the roots), curl it. Call a friend to help. Someone knows how to do hair. If you are going to stay in a hotel, call the front desk, speak to a female and tell them your situation. Ask and you shall recieve. Do you have friends or family (his or yours) in Hawaii? Pull out all of your cards and play them. Think outside of the box.

I agree with QueenNefi! Wash, blow dry, flat iron and curl the mess out of it. Even pin curl it after to give it extra swang... When my husband and went to our a ball a few months back that's what I did with 6 months of NG. You can do it girl!!!!

You stated that there aren't many black stylists, but there are some white stylists out there that can do a simple pin up. Even if you don't trust them with washing it and blowing it out, they'd be able to at least do a really elegant pin up.
