I need some tips on how to wash/care for 6 months in the transit hair. Its been 10days since I have last washed and i'm scared to do so b/c of my last experience and my hair is BEYOND dirty, so todays the day.

The problems i encounter is knots and tangles which ultimately lead to breakage any suggestions?

Another question....

For those you transitioned starting at SL without a BC, how long did it take you, how fast does your hair grow and what length did you end at when natural stretche and unstrecthed?

Another quasi question, any tips suggestions, for this stage in my jorney?

I've never transitioned but I once did a 5 month stretch with my relaxer and all I can say is that detangling shampoos and conditioners are vital. They'll help keep you from losing more hair than you have to. CON is a good shampoo for this and very moisturizing. My favorite shampoo though is Aveda Sap Moss... my hair feels so soft after I've used it I almost hate to condition. Almost. The Sap Moss conditioner is great for detangling. A cheaper alternative for me is Nacidit Olive Oil conditioner. It's not detangling per se but it gives me so much slip and moisture that the comb just glides through my hair. :yep: Giovanni Direct is a great detangling leave-in for when the washing is over. It also gives uber softness when you use just a small amount :D (too much won't work). In fact, when my conditioner doesn't detangle, a little dab of Giovanni is all I need.

I hope that helps. Don't give up the fight!

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems. I just started transitioning too. I wanted to mention that I read somewhere that you could try putting your hair into 4 or 6 braids and wash the braids, OR with each braid, you could take them down individually, wash/rinse the hair, then re-braid it to keep it from tangling with the rest of the hair while you finish washing the rest of the braids. I also read that the hair is easier to manage if you let it dry in braids. One last thing, a GREAT detangling shampoo is Creme of Nature (red, white and yellow bottle). HTH :p

thanks for the reply. The braid thing is something that I will defo be trying, thanks. Thanks for the recc, if im not mistaken i think I have that creme of nature poo, that i have yet to use on my current hair texture :p

The braids are a great idea. I wish I'd known about that back in the day. :look: Though I still probably would've been too lazy to do it.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention along those lines is washing your hair down/straight back. In other words, not bunching and scrubbing it all on top of your head to invite tangles. :)

What saved me while I was transitioning before was johnson & johnson detangling spray. When I was ready to wash my hair, I sat on a towel on the floor, armed with a wide tooth comb, some soft scrunchies and the spray. No matter how knotted up or matted the inner sanctum of my bush was, that spray would cut through any tangle, knot or choke hold that my strands had on each other. I lost less hair by being gentle, dousing 1 section of hair, combing rom tip to root, and twisting, and moving on. I'd start w/ 6 sections, and when all 6 were tangle free, I'd re-spray/comb 2 sections at a time and twist those so I'd have three twists, then 2, then a combed out 'fro.

I miss natural..glad I'm going back:)

I can't doggone decide if I want to transition........however it has been a minute since I've had a relaxer. I will detangling shampoos have been a life saver. Namely Keracare detangling shampoo.

Just wanted to update, i tried the braid thing and it worked like a dream; Thanks again!!!

still in search of my detangling products

I transitioned for 16 months from just past shoulder length relaxed to shoulder length stretched.

Techniques that helped me:
Washing in Sections - That tip made a HUGE difference.

Tools that helped me:
Denman Brush, Shower Comb, Soft Boar Bristle Brush

Two products that hands down helped with my detangling:

Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Scalp and Hair Treatment - NOT the conditioner the TREATMENT - No shampoo/conditioner combo could get my hair as soft and detangled as this - I use all natural products now but I am still going to repurchase this product for co-washing

Africa's Best Shea Butter Detangling Lotion - WONDERFUL!! Both my relaxed and natural hair loved it

HTH
