I need advice on how to proceed. As some of you know I had a bad experience with a hairstylist who touched up my relaxer really wrong. My hair has been breaking since then.
I need to stop the breakage and grow my hair back. I am thinking of stretching my hair to 6mo-1yr so i can give my hair a break from chemicals until the front and back grow back.
Any advice on what to do and howto fix this please?

I would p.s with wigs. Keeping the hair in braids under the wig & during washes. Do protein & moisture treatments. As well as take vitamins.
Hth
Eta: moist & seal as well
Sent from my PC36100

Protein treatments
No heat
No more relaxers for minimum six months
Co wash consistently
Keep hair moisturized at all times
Low manipulation as much as possible for a few months

Have you neutralized again since you got a relaxer?

If not, I recommend that you do ASAP. You always wanna neutralize the wash after a relaxer to assure that all of the chemicals were washed out. Until the relaxer is completely out, it will continue to process your hair, which will lead to insane breakage.

Keep your regimen simple to cut back on unecessary manipulation.

Wash and dc once a week
Moisturize daily
Sleep with a satin bonnet.

Have you tried ORS Conditioning Pak? Awesome for breakage. Well, all ORS conditioners are actually pretty good and cheap, which is always a good thing. :)

Good luck!

Yep. :nono:

This is exactly what happened to me. This is my story Pre-LHCF. And it was both Relaxer & Color and a Bad Stylist.:nono:

I use ORS replenishing pack for protein treatment. I dont use heat. I always air dry. I dont cowash often bc i live in NY and its too cold to be going out with wet hair in ny winter.

I dont use wigs or weaves. But i have a friend who can braid my hair into small plaits and cornrows with my own hair and they last for a full month. I will be trying that for the nexxt few months.

Im going to try a bonnet. I use scarf but i always get a mark in my hair when i take it off.

First, I'm sorry about your setback. Secondly, I agree with most of what everyone else has said. However, if your hair around the edges is fragile I would avoid getting small braids (micros) as this could cause further damage. Your choice to do an extended stretch is definitely the right decision.

I'm not experienced with wearing wigs but that may be a great way to baby your hair and not have to worry about styling options. Wishing you the best at bringing your hair back to its best health.

bestblackgirl, have you given any thought to becoming natural? You could possibly do a BC and wear braids or twists (with extension hair) until you've grown enough to have more styling options.

It's hard to tell from the photo how long your hair is now or how much and where all the breakage has occurred but it looks pretty severe from the front view.

When was your last relaxer and how much new growth do you have?

neutralize and get a short pixie cut and deep condition. i don't think you need to go natural. you just need a fresh start. i don't think you need to get braids or wear a wig. you have a lot of breakage and you will be forever trimming your hair to get rid of the damage. you need a good cut so you can start over.

LynnieB, My last relaxer was december 27, my hair was BSL from that relaxer, but i cut back to APL to get rid of some of the damage. I cant be natural bc i have sensitive scalp, and i have brillo 4z hair. I wouldnt be able to comb my hair without crying no matter how moisturizing i make it.

The relaxer that did the damage was in July. The lady put the relaxer like a DC and had me under the dryer with the relaxer. And let it In for 45 min. That was my first and last time i went to her.

I am going to invest in a wig and wear it and see how it goes. If it does i might go a year and until my hair is back to normal

The problem with a pixie cut is that it is very high maintenance, meaning more frequent relaxing; something OP wants to avoid. A TWA is extremely low maintenance and easy to care for. If OP wants to grow out that TWA she could use extensions to do so. She could also cornrow or twist it up and put it under a wig or weave; again very low maintenance.

BTW, when I think of pixie cut, I think of Halle Berry.

Her hair needs a big rest and TLC.

That "stylist" did you wrong big time.

TWA is very easy to care for until you get around the 4-6" mark then it requires a change in regimen. At least with a TWA you could get a low mainten. style (twists, braids) or cornrows and hide your hair for a while - until it can grow back in with fresh, healthy hair. Then you can do what you want; stay natural or go back to relaxing.

Either way, your hair needs a break and some extra TLC for a few months.

Good Luck OP and HHG

i like your advice, but i was just giving her advice from my standpoint. i grew my hair out from a pixie cut with no braids, twists, or weaves. and i had a relaxer. she doesn't have to get it tapered in the back to have a pixie. i never saw a pixie as high maintenance unless you get the back tapered. but she needs to get rid of that damage. she can wash/dc once a week and wet wrap her hair. she doesn't even need to use direct heat. she can get small satin sponge rollers or a straw set if she wants curls. she can get a touchup 6-8 weeks. with wrapping her hair, it will keep it straight. once it gets longer she can stretch a little more

she stated she is going to rock the wigs for awhile, so i hope everything works out for her.

shortdub - I hope so too. :yep:

She got lots of ideas hopefully one or a combo of them will work for her.

I hate to see women go through stuff like this, it's so stressful, panic inducing and can be really depressing.

ok that is good. i have to find this chick on youtube. she lost the front of her hair and was able to grow bangs after months of pampering her hair.

Yeah Shortdub78, this is what I am planning to do. My hair doesnt look that bad as a whole and I am able to blend the front in so it doesnt really show. I am just going to take a break from relaxer until the front grows.

If you can find the link of that lady you mentioned on youtube that would be helpful. I am curious to see what she did.

Thank you ladies for all the advice.
