Help! Need a curling iron that doesn't snag!

I've done my homework (looking at old posts and reading reviews at Folica and amazon) but i still need help. I need a small barrel curling iron with adjustable temp that doesn't snag (or, worse, CLIP OFF) my hair.

I just got one at Sally's that acted like a guillotine when tested it on a few strands. Scary.

I'm going to need it this weekend. Please help me out!
