Help Natural Hair!

My mom has thick course natural hair. She decided to put a tex in to loosen it up a bit and give it a little curl. Her hair looks great, but she is looking for a product that will make her hair feel soft. Could anyone out there with natural thick course hair give me some suggesstions?

A mixture of vegetable glycerin, water, and gel in a spray bottle worked wonders for my hair. Everything else made it soft initially but didn't last....I had to constantly reapply.
