A good leave in conditioner worked for me. I also add a mixture of oils to the hairline as well.

i add leave-in's *while wet* after washing which helps to tame the mane!
also, try to slick down while drying. when i let my hair air dry without putting in a ponytail it get SUPER poofy!
mtg has also helped with softness and manageability
