Help!My hair hates protein

Hi ladies,

I'm a 4a natural and I have extreme sensitivity to products with protein, every time I use any butter or leave in with protein, my hair always feels soo hard and dry like a broom stick.

Right now I'm just using olive oil as a daily moisturizer, but I'm looking for a non- greasy, creamy leave or buttery daily moisturizer.

I would also love to hear the regimens and favorite products of fellow protein sensitive heads.

I'm 4a/b, but I'm relaxed. My hair doesn't like protein either, so I use henna as my treatment. It's not a protein, but it strengthens my hair enough. If you still want to try protein, I'd recommend Sally's Ion Effective Care Treatment or their Silk Elements mayo. Both are really moisturizing - even as a protein DCs. This way you could use a creamy, non-protein LI like Neutrogena Silk Touch or some use a little Mane N Tail conditioner as a protein LI. Good luck!

bee mine has a nice line of protein free moisturizers.

ors olive oil lotion is good

kenra has a nice moisture based leave in

i like garnier's line of leave ins. there a a couple that are silicone free.

My hair hates protein too.
I stay away from coconut oil and all other protein products.
Also, if your hair hates protein you may have low porosity hair.

I have low porosity hair and all I use now are humectants.
I've been using honey for the past month and my breakage has nearly stopped.

Could you give some examples of which oils have a lot of protein? ...I could never figure out why my hair got so hard from using coconut oil, now i know :)

It's kind of confusing because some people say oils contain proteins and others don't; but this is what I believe is true.

" Common Oils used and whether or not they contain protein:

aloe (yes) http://www.absolutelyorganic-toxicfr...ge/1233820.htm

Sesame (yes) http://www.blissfulbalance.com/productinfopg.html

Soybean (yes) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soybean

Almond (yes) http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?t...dspice&dbid=20 http://www.vegsoc.org/info/basic-nutrition.html

Grapeseed (no) http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/fats-and-oils/579/2

Jojoba (yes) http://www.springerlink.com/content/t536347hr4118186/ http://www.luxemag.org/skin-body/jojoba-oil.html

Camellia (no) http://www.ayais.com/en/nature/camelliaoil.htmhttp://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/so...id=OILCAMELLIA

Hemp (yes) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodybuilding_supplement

Coconut (no?) Oddly enough after a long time of searching I cannot find anything that definitively says whether coconut oil contains amino acids or proteins. However, this was the worst oil I have ever tried on my hair. It left it crunchy and clumpy and awful. I bought a big tub of it and really tried hard to like it, but no matter how or when I applied the emulsified oil, it left my hair like crud. I know that’s probably the exception rather than the rule, so many people love it and have success with it. Just not me J I would have sworn it was loaded w/protein.

Macadamia (oh yes) http://www.australianmacadamia.com.a...-benefits.html

Shea (no) www.prokarite.org "

For shampoo to my knowledge chagrin valley is protein free many of their bars don't have coconut oil. Also aubrey honeysucklerose has such a light protein that people think its protein free so that should work well. For a moisturizer you can make your own with your fav protein free conditioner, some water, and evoo.
I'm sensitive to certain proteins but others my hair loves.
