I have been natural for a year and a half. I have gone from a shaved head to just above shoulder length.

I have different lengths all over my head - the front being the shortest.

I just don't know what to do with this big bush - cornrows irritate my scalp and make my big head look even bigger. Twists are sooo time comsuming to do and undo. Wearing a wash and go makes me look so 'unfinished' - i mean i want to look like a grwon up not a 12 year old.

I'm sick of half wigs as to be honest you can tell 'its not my hair' and full wigs don't fit my big head!

Right now i blow dried my hair - its a massive mass of hair and to pull it back into a pony means using a LOT of product and i end up looking like a 12 year old with a big ole slap head.

All this time i've stayed away from excessive heat and no flat irons have touched my hair.

So........i'm thinking of either starting to flat iron my hair on a regular basis - my head sweats easily so i don't know how long it would last for. Or just hit the relaxer jar - but i know deep down i'll regret it as relaxers really irriated my scalp.

Help - i need some hairstyle ideas or encouragment not to undo all of my hard work thus far.

I will suggest you Nice Individuals with extensions or beautiful twist with extensions (like London Diva) or yarn braids for one or two months, so you'll not see your hair for awhile !

All these individual braids/twists take so long to do/undo. I guess i'll have to do this...thanx.

What are yarn braids?

Hey! I know it's hard right now, but don't do anything right now that you might regret later. Once your hair gets longer, you'll have so many more options. All I can suggest it to keep taking care of your hair, and look through fotkis for ideas. I'm doing phony ponies and sew-ins until my hair gets longer and longer. I'm going to be getting a UPA clip soon. I have those days when I'm fed up, but then I see a natural with long healthy thick hair and I remember why I"m doing this. Good Luck on your decision!

I agree, try and think of a few new hairstyles to try since it seems u really want to stay natural.

Twist extentions
Comb coils
Full head sewin
Individual braids
Get it blown out and flat ironed every once in awhile

Ooh girl! I know your pain. I have just made the decision to texlax yesterday. I just cant deal, however, I do hope that you find a better alternative. Hiding your hair in individual braids or twists does sound like a good idea.

Have you thought about getting some braids or something to keep your mind off of it? Everybody goes through this stage at one point or another. I usually just put my hair away for a little bit until the thought passes. By the time it's time to take it down, I usually can't wait because I've missed my hair.

I would suggest kinky twists, because those are easier to take out and sometimes to put in. I also suggest getting it professionally flatironed once and a while. Hope you get through this. I feel your pain too. :yep:

I agree with the individual braids (extensions) suggestion or kinky twist extensions. You can leave it in for a couple of months which would give your hair time to grow and then maybe get them done over again. You've come this far, maybe when your hair is a little longer it will be easier for you to style it.

Thanks for the words of encouragment. Yes, i know its just a faze i'm going through......i've had this feeling before but right now its really strong.

Yep - i'll go for the flat iron first and then go for the braid extensions

It'll be okay. Have you tried doing bigger twists so it won't take so long? Sometimes I just do bigger, messy, quick twists, knowing I'm just wanting to do a twist out, then I redo the bigger twists over night. Good luck! You have made such wonderful progress too! And don't give up on the wigs either, some do come in larger sizes and some really are bigger than you think they'll be, I say this because I also have a big head and thought I could not wear wigs but I eventually lucked up on some that look and fit great.

My quick styling options are flat twists in the front or one the side with 2 strand twists on the rest of the hair. (this cuts my styling time in half)
I also do big twists using a gel and wax mixture, leave them in for a day and them take them out and seperate them for a twist out (I do this on dry hair).
I also flat iron, I will wear it straight for a day or 2 then pin it up, once it starts to revert I do braid outs. I don't flat iron often but this routine works pretty well. I"ve done it 3 times this year.

My hair is getting to this point too. It's getting too big to wear it out under a wig. You can put it in a few plaits and pin them down to flatten it and then put your wig on. My great grandma has waistlength hair and does this to make all her hair fit under her wig. She always wears wigs cut into short hair styles and it looks fine.

How about a flexi rod set with curly pudding? You can leave it like that for two weeks at a time. When my hair starts getting on my last nerve, I like styles I don't have to mess with for at least 2 weeks. BTW, pics in my album of a flexirod set.

m aybe you can try a blowout from a salon, its hard to keep hair flat ironed in summer since we sweat and if your hair isnt used to heat it might not take right away. Get a full weave you wont have to worry about taking braids out in two moths which i think is apain and then you can get the perm feel and decide if you really want to do it. but wait on the chemical cause you cant take that back

kinky twists..but use human hair , I pulled mine out after 2 weeks. Though I was washing & sealing my hair , I felt the synthetic texture of the hair was creating friction against my hair. I suggest you do a flat iron wear it as long as it lasts, by then this time and feeling will pass. Do what your hair tells you:yep::grin:

We are sooo "here". I want a grown up and sophisticated hairstyle. My hair is to short for what I want on my natural hair. I can't press my hair now due to humidity and sweat. I wear phony ponies daily so I'm sick of fake hair.

I've learned how to give my hair the blowdried look without using heat so I'm gonna experiment with some hairstyles dry twistouts and hair tools, like the banana clip.

Wow I'm glad I checked out your album...I'm so biting all of your styles. You're having fun with your hair and it looks great.

OK - last night my hair was huge after a blow dry the day before and was pulled back the whole day for work.

I was going out on a date and was at the point of calling and cancelling.

My Mum came to the rescue and suggested i do larger twists than i usually do. I protested that they would look like 'do do' twists all over my head.

Oh - THANK YOU MUMMY - it only took us 45 minutes to twist up and my hair looked brilliant. I just pinned over one side at the front and i looked all grown up!!!

The answer for me is to stop doing these time consuming tiny twists - they look great but it can sap my want to be a natural.

The date went great by the way!!!

Thanks to all for the encouragement and empathy.
