What is the difference between brittle ends and split ends? What to do about brittle ends

I'm no expert (hopefully one of the other ladies can comment also), but split ends are when the ends split into two or more sections and need a trim. Brittle ends are hard and dried. I used to get brittle ends also. I deep condition and then air dry with S-Curl and some type of oil to seal. That solved my problems. HTH;)

Arianna is correct, I think that brittle ends can be salvaged with alot of permenant TLC, but split ends are pretty must be cut off to salvage the hair. Read this board about daily moisturizing/oiling and baggying. after you've got a routine that your hair loves..then you can say goodbye to those brittle ends...

My brittle ends were split or bent at weird angles. When my ends are undamaged they usually aren't brittle. Have you tried dusting?

I think you Ariana4000 is an expert!

I would agree with what she said, exactly. If brittle ends are not addressed, over time they may split and or break. This is STILL an issue for me. Constant moisture, curl activator and the use of oils such as olive oil and castor oil have made a difference. I am also a big fan of the baggie method for decreasing brittleness and preserving the ends of the hair.
