Okay, so I'm always reading on the message boards and on different sites dedicated to growing "black" hair that our hair requires tons of moisture and the benefits.

I'm a 4a, I wash every 7 days and this seems to be sufficient moisture because my hair 1) doesn't break, 2) is very soft/bouncy/shiny, and 3) my scalp produces plenty of natural oils by my next wash.

I wrap my hair every night and apply nothing to it. In the mornings I apply nothing as well. The only time I apply products to my hair is when I'm washing/conditioning. During the week, when i apply nothing to my hair, i literally lose no strands. During my wash n set, I always ask to see the comb and if this is at all possible, there is usually NO STRANDS in the comb.

When I try moisturizing on a daily basis (ie, shea butter/NTM, etc.) this is when I lose hair.

Is this possible? Also, what is considered losing a lot of hair? For me, if I see more than 5 strands I get worried. Am I being over paranoid? And also, I started taking B-complex vitamins, amino acids and biotin for the past 4 days. My scalp is itching like crazy, and I'm using the same hair products as before and never experienced this. Could this be the vitamins kicking in?

Wow, you are very lucky. My hair needs a lot of moisture and attention or I hear "snap snap", which are my strands breaking off! What kind of shampoo/conditioner do you use? Do you use any heat at all?

I read somewhere that the average person loses anywhere from 40-80 strands daily. Since you're losing much less, you're obviously doing something right. The B-complex vitimans are probably helping you to maintain your hair as well. You have it all girl, so keep growing.

Everyone responds differently.
It could be the type of moisture you use or maybe your hair doesn't need the extra lubricants.
Yes, you are a bit over the edge with the hair shedding...
It's "normal" for people to shed daily & sometimes up to 100 strands a day....
But once again, different results for different people...
-HTH :look:

Yeah, you're doing a good job if you barely lose strands. The average shed rate for humans is 50-100 strands a day. I get worried after 10 strands, but then again, I've never had a day when I didn't shed AT ALL.

My hair has always been like this prior to taking supplements. 40-80 daily, I would lose my mind lol.

I dilute my shampoos w/water. I use the following:

Shampoos - Elucence or Arosci
Conditioner - ORS Hair Mayo, Queen Helene or Moisturfuse
Leave-In - Arosci

and this comb

I thought perhaps I was underestimating my hair needs because the less I put, the better my hair thrives.

A lot of ladies on the board have found that less product helps to keep the hair on their heads....
Others, such as myself, find that little to no products = little to no hair!
You're on the ball girl!
