I have been struggling with this crown area for almost 2 years. It seems like while the rest of my hair is progressing, this certain area just refuses to grow. Or maybe its weak and it grows and then breaks. I don't know.
I am currently in braids. But this is what that area looks like without my braids

Have you tried a growth aid in that area like MTG or BT? The rest of your hair looks nice and I would stay away from braids.

It looks like breakage to me. Do you usually wear braids? How often to you moisturize and if so what do you use?

I have not worn braids since September 2007. I recently got single braids put in on June 13 to give my hair a break.
When I am not in braids I moisturize about twice a day with CFCG. And I co wash frequently but not religiously.

I had a section in my crown that was just like that until I stopped relaxing. It itched a lot and would get really sore at times. I stopped relaxing and it grew back in fully and my scalp is happy again.

I would definitely say not to relax that area for a LONG and keep the area well moisturized and the pores free of buildup.

It looks like the breakage is due to overprocessing. i've had broken patches like that before. i know it all too well:ohwell:

you can try massaging it every night with some essential oils and evoo every night. also give that section a break from relaxers. relax it every other toucup or until it grows a bit.

it will grow back.

I definitely would not relax that area any more.

I agree. I wouldn't relax anymore. But I'm natural so I may be biased. If you want to keep your hair relaxed maybe a relaxed girl here can help you with healthy relaxing practices.

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely stop relaxing that area until I feel that it is strong and grown enough to be relaxed.

Ditto! Sometimes you may need to switch up things a bit, to get a different result. In your case, it may mean the above, no relaxers no braiding or a different way to do it without putting the stress on your hair. I still would suggest as above, to just give your hair a rest.

I had this years and years ago when i used to wear a pony tail with several bobby pins. My head would hurt from the pins and when I took it out after several days it would be itch and sore. I was CUTTING OFF MY CIRCULATION!!!!!!!! My hiar broke down just like that in the middle.

I would say, just wear full wigs for awhile and give your hair a break. I haven't ever had anything like this happen to me but my first reaction would be not to put anymore stress on that part of your head AT ALL until it has grown out a couple more inches

I have a broken patch area, from stress. I would definitely recommend no relaxing for that area and try apply Sulfur 8 to that area 3 times a week. My patch went from sparse to about 3 inches in 4 months or so. It is still shorter than the rest of my hair(18 inches or so) but once it grows back in you can braid it and keep that area "rested".

Good luck

I had/have that same problem at the back of my head, but it's pretty much recovered now. Mine was the result of overprocessing in that area a few times and then just poor treatment of the hair over a long period of time. I started using BT on the area a few months ago. I also starting stretching my relaxers and leaving that area as the last area to get the creme during the relaxer process (also used vasaline to protect little hair that was growing there). It's pretty much filled in now; you can't tell by looking, but I can still feel that it's not as thick as other areas. Hope this helps.

I was thinking the same thing. Wear a wig and put as little stress on that part of the hair as possible. Do scalp massages and try one of the sulfur based growth aids. I used Hair Revitalizer Growth Elixir to help fill in my edges when they thinned out. If you don't start to see some results in a couple of months then go see a derm.

Yes!:yep: I've had crown breakage from relaxer overprocessing as well. My solution: Texlaxing...I have been texlaxing for 2-1/2 years and since then, my hair in that area has grown back thick and healthy.

I agree with the advice the ladies here have already given....I think you should either shorten processing time when relaxing or use a milder relaxer, avoid any hairstyle that causes stress to that area, moisturize it regularly and be extra gentle when detangling.

The ladies have given you great advise. When I had a similar patch it was from stress also. I switched to texing, stretching and then no poo at all. The oil bath and shikakai soap made the difference for me. And of course doing things to cope with stress ie, praying, soothing music, not worrying etc. HTH

I would try a blend of rosemary/jojoba oil. First patch test to make sure you don't react, because rosemary could be a little strong, but it does increase circulation and generate hair growth. Also I'd try to cut down on the braiding if you can. Good luck :)

I think you need to stop perming for a little while and see if it improves.

I have a thining crown, no visible breakage, just disappearing acts. Anywho, I've been given the same advice you have here....."lay off the perms for a while".

I was advised against but put twists into my hair (with human hair'cause it weighs less) and I'm now about 10 weeks since my last perm. I massage regularly, rinse at least 2x a week and put little to no product on my scalp. We'll see what we have come August.

I believe the culprit for me was Stress, this takes up to 3 months to show in your hair. So with that said think of what was going on in your life 3 months ago.

I hope this helps.

Why do I have the feeling you are constantly touching that are? I had a patch like that last year and it kept getting bigger. But I kept picking at it. With a little help from MN. It has grown now u can't even tell it was completly bald.

Do not put braid in yet. Massage in a MN mix and bun. It will grow. I rooting for you. I have been there.

This was my problem area when I was relaxed as well. It would not grow. It always broke off, but I could camoflouge it because the rest of my hair was thick. The only way it has grown is being natural. But it still is the slowest growing part of my hair.

I had the same exact problem. I also wore my hair in the same style all the time at work, so I was always brushing, touching pulling that area to make it neatly fit into the ponytail holder.

My bald spot is gone...I switched up my routine, massaged area w/essential oils, freed myself from the heavy weaved pony tails and started being very gentle with that area...

TLC with help almost anything - Good luck...

thank you ladies for all the advice.
I might relax the rest of my hair except for that part or choose to texlax. I'm not sure whether I want to go natural yet.
The braids in that area ended up falling off so that area isn't being stressed.
I will definately start using Jojoba Oil and Rosemary Oil
It's interesting to see so many other ladies had this problem. I honestly felt like I was the only one.

You're not alone. I've had this problem before too, a combination of stress and relaxers. For me the problem comes and goes, even though I don't relax, I still have the stress on occasion:ohwell:. I find keeping the area moist and massaged with healing oils helps.
