lately my hair has been disgusting me. Shedding like mad crazy and recently it has started breaking. So i decided I needed to do something. I went to the salon intending to get an aphogee treatment and a trim. When i got there the stylist told me my hair was severely over processed and my roots were underprocessed. SHe told me my hair was too weak for aphogee-- which i thought was odd because i thought that thats exactly what it was supposed to be for. Then when it came time for a trim she wanted to trim 6 INCHES!!!! i told her no- 1 inch max, but then it got me thinking-- maybe i really should. So anyways the point of this post is to ask-- is there anyway of stopping breakage due to overprocessing?? or should i just cut and start all over again?

I don't think anything can fix over-processed hair. IMO you should slowly cut off the overprocessed hair. Not a 6" chop in one sitting, though! Maybe an inch very couple of months.

luvhair ~ I don't have any advice to post but just wanted to let you know that there was another sister facing the same ordeal

I agree, also keep pampering it like the finest piece of silk and have an enormous amount of patience. Handle it careful because you don't want it to break at the line of demarcation.

I don't know what she meant when she said your hair is to weak for Aphogee??!!

Sounds like exactly what you need, to me.

Hair prayers to you...

i am soo close to crying-- its like im soo tired of this-- muy hair grows long and then something happens. i guess i will take care of it and cut an inch every 3 months or soo... is that too long? maybe i'll get a weave to create the look of long hair until it happens

well what happened? If you are taking care of your hair what is going wrong ? I have naturally dry hair and the minute I let it get dry it breaks. But when it is moisturized it is fine.I know Aphogee is harsh I think Tracy said she thinks it is too harsh for her hair, maybe she will see this an offer an alternative. I really like Penetrait for halting breakage. Or maybe you can put in a whole head weave and wear until you reach your goals.

Damn my hair is shedding like mad right about now, especially when wet. I'm REALLY hoping that because I'm off the MSM (due to lazyness) that's the reason. MSM slows down the shedding. My hair is pissing me off something chronic and nothing i do right now seems to help. I've had such a bad hair day I think I'm just going to put it back into a bun in the shower and forget about the pretty hairstyles for a few months.

well heres my regimen
every other day i conditioner wash with joico kpak daily conditioner. then i put jojoba oil and breakthru anti-breakage lotion on my wet hair and spray scurl with profectiv's healthy ends. I also oil my scalp with jojoba oil while moist.
once a week i use proclaim tea tree shampoo to clarify-- which i think could be possibly messing up my hair, but i do dilute with water. than i condition with moisturfuse and do the whole oil/breakthru/scurl thing and oil my scalp again. Oh i also use aloe vera with my shampo. After wards my hair is incredibly moist, but it seems to be breaking now. I have had a problem with breakage for about 6 months now, but the breakage thing has been going on for the last 3 or 4 weeks. I also do not use heat.

I also take vitamins which have made my hair grow lightening fast-- which i why i dont think my roots are underprocessed like the stylist said.

Now that i have gotten the trim my hair seems to be thicker and i have not seen any broken hairs yet. I was hoping that i wouldnt have to cut any more hair off. I thought i would have bra strap by september but now....

can you guys give me some advice?

all I can say is that breakthrough stuff made my hair break, as soon as I introduced that stuff I saw breakage.I think others here will be able to help you alot. Good luck

I definitely agree with Sassygirl on this one. In the meantime, give your hair some extra tlc.

I hear you on that one. The breakthru made my hair break like crazy. I had to look at the label and made sure it wasn't called breakoff. I threw that junk in the garbage.

For the breakthru ladies which of the products were you using. I've heard some of the ladies that have had bad results using the other stuff except the shampoo. The shampoo seems like one of the only decent products in this breakthru line.

Luvhair, I'm sorry to see you're going through this. I agree with your assessment above. Maybe try clarifying once a month instead of once a week. Also, one thing Tracy suggested to me a while back was to reduce the number of products put in the hair: Maybe choose one really moisturizing/gentle shampoo, one really moisturizing conditioner (to use on its own and also as a follow-up after your protein conditioner), and one or two really effective leave-ins. HTH

The Breakthru leave-in made my hair feel greasy, yet still hard and dry. I like the shampoo, though.

I never tried them on my fully relaxed hair, but I like Dudley's PCA Moisture Retainer and Empress Moisturizing Retainer (cheaper version of Dudley's, IMO). Some other good ones are Salerm 21, Beauty Without Cruelty, BB Castor Oil Lotion and African Royale MOM (it's a little on the greasy side, so don't glob it on).

I've heard Biosynthesis Phinish is good, too.

Hello luvhair,

I have a question, in the last post I read from you, you said that you don't think that your hair is underprocessed at the roots like the hair dresser said, also that since the trim it seems better. Did you also consider that maybe it is not overprocessed and in as bad a shape as the "hair dresser" made it out to be. Maybe she was just hating. I had an experience where I had went to the salon and a girl who does not regularily do my hair said wow your hair is pretty long, then she proceeded to roughly comb through it.

I would get a second opinion!!!!

i definitely thought about it-- some of the things ahe was saying wasnt making sense. abd she did combmy hair frmo root to end with a fine tooth plastic comb and all this hair came out. actually asha are you in socal because my stylist did the same thing!! and i didnt see her hair license come to think of it so made she doesnt know what shes talking about. but why is my hair shedding and breaking and the ends are really thin.

one last question-- now that i have the inch trimmed my hair seems to be fine-- havent seen any broken hairs and my ends are thick again--but is it only temporary-- i mean is my ends only thick because i just trimmed them and next week theyll be thin again?

Luvhair,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. I have come to the conclusion that hair does undergo "PMS" every now and then. It's hard not to worry but try not to be anxious over it. Hopefully, your hair's "PMS" will be a shortlived one.
Peace and good luck

I agree, you might be putting entriely too much oil in your scalp. I am a firm believer that less is more. Also, to stop the breakage you might want to try Motions CPR shampoo and conditioner. I use that and sometimes alternate with Nexxus Emergencee whenever I think that my hair is shedding too much and it stops right away.

Aphogee is too hard on my hair as well, so my only alternatives are Emergencee or DRC-28. Also, you might want to spiotz you hair with a mixture of distilled water, leave-in conditioner, and the oil of your choice (I use coconut oil). That made my hair much stronger and keeps my ends frizz-free.

I hope this helps.

I was using the daily lotion and the heat strengthening creme, and I hated them both especially the daily lotion. It made my hair hard and the creme left a film on my hair. I've also used the shampoo and conditioner, nothing to write home about. The foam wrap is also horrible, falls in the category with the daily lotion.

thanks ladies-- i really hope my hair od going through pms because i really dont want to lose 6 inches, even over a space of time. i have religiously used cpr in the past so im gonna start with that again and throw out the breakthru. thanks

How'd you read my mind? This is exactly what I was thinking. There's no way I would let anyone cut 6 inches just because they "think" my hair looks a certain way.

I used IC tea shampoo for years and it was too much clarifying. I wouldn't use a clarifying shampoo every week. Also I still say some of us cannot use alot of glycerin(scurl). My hair feels soft at first but then it dries out and breaks....everytime. I steer clear of alot of glycerin. Those are just my thoughts. You also seem to do alot to your hair when it's wet. Try less manipulation.
