Ok i have been on a self induced no heat challenge/cornrow/wig /no measuring challenge. I havent had heat on my hair since Aug. now i am supposed to check my lenght trim etc at the end of feb. But i have been bitten by the heat bug. I want to measure not now but right now. I also have the problem of a highly irritated scalp. Sometimes it burns like perm is on it other times it itches really bad. I also have scalp buildup not dandruff though. I wash clarify scratch i know thats bad but it still have buildup. maybe thats just the natural sebum but i hate it anyways i need you guys to encourage me to meet my goal of no heat til the end of feb. please i am getting desperate!!!! Even my fun new wig is not helping me and you guys know i like the wigs!!!!

As far as scalp irritation is concerned, at the risk of boring everyone to death with my fixation on nutrition as being the cure and cause of nearly every problem, I would suggest a food allergy test. When my scalp would itch and I hadn't changed anything in my regimen, I had an allergy test and found the food I'm most sensitive to is egg...and I used to have that daily. When I cut that out of my diet the itching stopped. And just to confirm that the eggs were to blame, I ordered sausage instead of eggs from the same Café I used to get my eggs and my scalp itched the same. Turns out that the eggs are cooked in the same pan as the sausage. If, however, I cook my own breakfast or have breakfast cooked in a pan where no eggs have been cooked, I don't get any itches.

Also to consider: have you changed anything in your regimen? Do you apply anything to your scalp? I know my scalp would itch like crazy if I applied anything that isn't light and penetrating to my scalp. Natural oils and essential oils that I use for massaging don't seem to bother meprobably because they don't just sit on my scalp but actually get absorbed. Besides, I wash my hair often so they probably don't get a chance to bother me. Also, do you end your washes with an ACV rinse? That could help remove any shampoo/conditioner residue that might be causing itches.

As for heat... Ms P I recently had a mad obsession with pressing my hair coz I enjoyed the ease of styling and combing (I have to be extra careful with combing my natural hair and so it takes me longer to deal with it)...so I can identify with the temptation. I mean, it got so bad that I decided to return to extension singles -- the one style/do I find it easiest to deal with -- if I'm to keep any of my hair on my head.

BTW, I have never pressed my hair to measure it. I just stretch it and measure that length. It may not be 100% accurate, but it's at least 98% accurate. So if that's your only excuse for pressing, I say :whip: step away from that flat iron or pressing comb and learn to measure without heat.

Just say NO. If I can, so can you. Where there's a will... :p

well thanks ladies

candi i will try and hold out singing "i'll keep hold in (hee hee hee)"

nonie you always give sound advice. we are on the same page i already have the paperwork from my doctor to get the allergy test done it is for my sinuses though but what ever they find will surely help the scalp. in fact if they are open i might get it done today probably no crowds. i always mean to do the acv but i dont. i shouldnt have build up because i rarely apply things directly to the scalp lately i have been activatoring and surging. i doubt if the surge is the problem because i often skip it for weeks at a time and i have had this problem for years, this is part of my reason for departing with the perm. as far as my press i am going to hold out i'm not just measuring but i'm due for a trim also and being the creature of change that i am i just want something different.

*****plus i need updates for my album LOL****

Nonie! I'm glad you mentioned those food allergies...I know I have them and need a test...I never thought they could be making my scalp so sensitive!!!

Are you by any chance using surge? I ask because when i was using it, made my scalp burn after using it for a few days and i ended up with big flakes, Or do u take a hair vitamin that contain alot of biotin?

Ms. Portugal!
I was going to start a post on this. I am currently in cornrows but it seems like the temptation to use heat is growing stronger every minute. I have been noticing everyone around me with nice straightened hair and being the hair fanatic that I am I wonder how much growth I am getting. I am trying to hold out until May. I hope I can make it that far. I know it will be worth it.

If I ever have thoughts about using heat (it doesn't happen often anymore), I just remember the damaged condition my hair was in before the hair boards because of heat. That's all it takes for me.

me too...I get sick at the thought :(

One day i broke out with hives, and the only thing i did differently that day was take my vitamin (2 pills), i try taking only one and i didn't break out again but i felt like a dry kind of burning feeling to my skin like when your skin is really really dry. I decided to try surge since everyone was taking about how good it was when i spayed it on my scalp, my scalp felt the same way like my skin felt after taking my vitamin, i figured it have to be the biotin since thats the only thing that the both products have in common. Now i take a less dose of biotin.
