OK So I took pics of my fat twists and discovered bald patches in my scalp.

Does this look like alopecia to you?

It's crazy cuz I discovered these patches when trying to take pics of my thinning edges. I tried to tell myself it was just a wierd finger part, but it's definitely not. :wallbash:

I'm going to try to use some topical stuff on my own before I go to a dermo.

HELP!!!!

No Whimsy, that does not look like a bald patch to me. It just looks like a part in your hair. I am sorry I don't see what you see.

Hi Whimsy,

This is a link to mine 4th pic to right.http://www.longhaircareforum.com/album.php?albumid=2387

Mine started out the shape of a 50 cent piece. I started using a mix of coconut oil, shea butter, MTG and Monistat. I still have a spot but it is not as big and the rest of my hair is thicker around it. Try not to worry about it and see a doctor if that will help you feel better.

surely it must have happened slowly if you're just noticing. if you an, def go to a dermatologist... :hugs:

How long till you saw any results?

I guess about a year. I still make sure to give that area a little extra TLC more product more masaging. This is when I joined LHCF. I notice it more right after a retouch it is still thin but not as bad as it was.

Whimsy I know you're natural so I'd say go see the derm. :bighug:

It's really REALLY small, but I do see what you're talking about at the top of the part.

ETA: I dunno Whimsy, looking at it again, maybe it's just a weird part.

Try parting your hair in a different way and if still notice the bald spot then go to the derm.

Its the way your hair is parted or it could be that you pull your hair in that certain direction frequently and the space just remains. It isn't a bald spot but if you're worried try more styles with less tension, parting or pulling in that area.

IMO it doesnt look like a bald spot, however u know ur hair better than me so if ur concerned I def say go visit ur derm just incase yanno

Looks like a strange part to me. Definitely play around with your hair to see if that space is still there. Your avatar pic is FIERCE, btw.

I was just going to ask if you part that spot often.

After wearing braids for over a year and never changing the partings, I too noticed big gaping gullies when I undid my hair. They disappeared once I changed the partings. I think also braiding/twisting really firmly can make partings widen. It is because of these "permanent parts" that I no longer use a comb to part my hair.

My twisted bangs have been worn in the same way for a long time, but unlike before when I'd noticed permanent parts, now it's kinda hard to tell when one ends and another starts.

Hey, thanks for all the responses gurls, I usually don't part my hair there but I sometimes will, maybe once every couple weeks? so maybe it's been adding up over time? and I don't think I'm under any extra stress. I think the bottom part may be weird part issues, now that i'm further inspecting it, but the top bit is just bald, there's no hair there to part. :(

Bleh.

I see what you are talking about Whimsy. I would book and appt with the dermatologist. It could be anything or nothing. Just to be on the safe side and make sure that it doesn't grow larger and to make sure that there aren't any other spots that you can't see, have a pro take a look for you.

no you certaintly are not going bald. I believe we may have similar hair types and thats just how our parts look like.

I already posted this pic in the fat twists request but here is an example
