I got 3 packs of small and wide and 1 pack of long and wide and I have looked at the videos and for the life of me I can't figure out how to put the rod through the rollers to make it stay. What am I not getting. I want to wash my hair tonight and use these but I can't get pass step 1

Hey LadyR,

I bought the kit today and it took a little under 1.5 hours for me to get them in. The back was more difficult than the front because I would forget which way I was twisting my hair before putting the curlformer on. Plus the rod snagged on small strands of hair within the twist at the root so it wouldn't pull through. Once I figured out what was causing the snag, I knew to retreat and try again.

I'm getting ready to sit under the dryer for about 30 minutes then I'm going to sleep in them. I've already taken pics of my head with the curlformers and I'll take more in the morning when I remove them.

Hopefully I will have time to post before I head to church for a meeting at 9:30 EST.

I hope you had success with yours!

So this makes a difference? Please explain.

Sorry for the slow reply but I was under the dryer. When I looked at ladynyc (i left a couple of letters out) video on youtube, she mentioned remembering which way you twisted the hair. I won't know until tomorrow how much of difference it made since this was my first try. I'm sure I didn't twist all of it the same direction because I have "dyslexia" when it comes to looking in a mirror and doing anything, i.e. rolling hair, taking pics, etc. :lachen:

I'm going to try to sleep in these things since I want my curls to be fresh on tomorrow.

Once I figured out how to put the roller on the rod I didn't have much problems. Sitting under the dryer now. I to am going to sleep in them. I have a long day and will be going t see the MIL so I need my hair looking decent. We shall see

Let me tell your this morning my hair was a hot mess. I don't know what I did wrong. I didn't have any problems putting them in and I though I did everything right but when I took them out my hair was hard and didn't have any curl it just lied there so I throw on my fall and called it a day.

I do believe that I put too much setting lotion. I had in my spray bottle: Lottabody, oil, water, serum and oil moisterizuer. I think that the Lottabody made my hair too hard. Also I believe that I didn't have enough hair in the curler. I used the short and wide and with my fear of putting too much hair in each roller I don't think I put enough.

Oh well, I will try once again next Friday as I only wear my hair out Saturday and Sunday. It's hidden during the week because I go to the gym every morning.

If it doesn't work next week I will be selling them.

I ended up doing this twice because I had way too much product in my hair so it was too soft. I don't think I completely rinsed out the conditioner, Moisture Maniac. On top of that I had glycerin in my water - not measured just kind of freely added it to the water bottle. I also applied a frizz product to the length and a curl activator to the ends. My biggest mistake was not using any setting lotion. The curls came out really pretty but I could tell they wouldn't last because they were way too soft! By the time I left my house, my hair was poofing up. By the way, I ended up sleeping in the curlformers on Friday night. A big no no! Besides staying up watching the news of the tornado damage in downtown Atlanta, the rollers were so uncomfortable that I really couldn't get any rest!

I clarified on Sat. evening and sprayed Infusium 23 on my hair then used lottabody - straight no chaser. My curls came out much better and I still have most of them today. I say my stylist on Sat. evening and she commented on how well I did with them and how nice they were (thanks, Balisi). Today I've pinned the back up because that is where most of the curls fell out. I think I forgot to spray lottabody on a couple of them. I was able to cut the application time down to 1 hour. Making sure the hair is soaking wet really does speed up the process.

At night I pin the curls going up toward the center, use a mesh wrap, a hair net then a satin bonnet (thanks to others for those tips). The hair net under the bonnet really does prevent my curls from smushing.

In the future, I will probably let my stylist put them in and I will only do them on myself occassionally. I need to buy some of the longer ones because I had some hair sticking out of some of the curlformers. Because I'm natural, the end curled up on its own.

I have pics so I will post them later. I'm not very adept at taking pics of myself so some of them didn't come out very clear.

Can't wait to see the results...I don't remember which way I twisted mine, lol. I have the same problem. That's why some of my curls were pointing in weird directions:lachen::lachen::lachen:

After I read and re-read the directions they said that the curlers turn in different directions. Like if you got the pack of extra long and wide, the pink ones curl clockwise and the yellow ones curl counter-clockwise. Thats why there are 2 different colors in each pack so you can differentiate between the two.

Oh, I didn't realize that. I use them the same way and had no problems. If you hold the opening of the CF at the base (the top part near the scalp) while pulling the hook through with the other hand, then there shouldn't be any pulling, tugging or hair loss. I only lost maybe 10 hairs and that was from combing and smoothing the hair itself, not from the use of the CF.

I suppose we all have to be gentle and I'm extra careful. I think trying to put too much hair into the hook may cause many problems. If one is having problems pulling the hair through; in other words, if one is struggling to get the hook through, that's a sign that there is too much hair in the hook itself.

While pulling the hook through, hold the top (base at the scalp) with one hand and pull with the other hand DOWNWARDS not outwards. The CF straightens downward. If one pulls outward, you'll struggle because the twists imbedded in the CF sometimes makes the hook get stuck.

When removing the CF's, take both hands at the base of the CF (the opening nearest the scalp). Using one hand, straighten out the CF DOWNWARDS. Use the other hand (still at the base nearest the scalp) to support the CF and hair. The CF should just glide off the hair effortlessly. No hair should be caught in the CF and no hair should be pulled. The CF *itself* should be pulled.
