So my little sister is coming to me with her hair issues...and I come on here to find answers ;) ... Now she wants a gift... for me to get her the perfect oil for her relaxed hair, which due to overcoloring and relaxing is dry and breaking...her hair is regularly past SL and really nice, but its getting thinner due to the chemicals. I've been recommending protective styling for the winter, increased water intake, and some vitamins...she wants moisturize WITHOUT the 'greasy sticking to my neck and dont smell like sulfur 8' ... as a newbie...I'm like...Ummmmmm...let me "research on LHCF" and get back to you...

While i've had great success w/ BT and my braids she requires a 'light to nothing' regime. ... so anyone???

Which oil/light butter should i get as a gift for her?

I think she needs a really good moisturizer and an oil/butter may not provide the amount of moisture she really needs. There have been lots of great reviews Hawaiian Silky 14n1 from many relaxed heads here. It's been described as creamy, not watery, and good smelling. You can get it from a BSS I think.

Also, if she doesn't DC already she should start. It doesn't matter how good her moisturizer is if she's not getting moisture anywhere else in her regimen. At the very least she should be using a really moisturizing conditioner...lots of people like Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose and there have been good reviews of the Silk Elements Mega Moisture line (I think that's what it's called), which you should be able to find in a BSS.

Hope this helps!

Thank you! ... Yes she's also a HEAT fanatic... :wallbash: ... Where do I get that Hawaiian Silky 14n1? ... Have to look that one up... Thanks

Different oils work for different people but coconut, castor, and olive oil are big favorites. Jojoba is also a favorite light oil that mimics are scalps natural sebum.

Oils are great conditioners but they aren't moisturizers. Shea butter is a favorite butter for moisturize. Oooh lightbulb moment! Maybe you can get her some shealoe, it is basically coconut oil, whipped shea butter, and aloe vera gel. You can buy it online or some ladies make it. If you do a search you will find lots of info about it.

Hawaiian Silky should be at any regular BSS...I know I've seen it before. There's a couple threads on it...I know Tiffers started one (she's the official Hawaiian Silky LHCF Pusha).

If she's a heat fanatic...maybe you should get her a really good heat protectant along with a moisturizer. I don't use heat so I don't know what a good heat protectant would be. A lot of people use Chi Silk Infusion but it's not technically a heat protectant so I don't know about that. You'll have to do a search on that one.
