So I'm doing to get a touch up this Saturday at a place I've never been. So what should I do to my hair to prepare it? It's an Affirm regular relaxer and right now I feel as though my hair is in protein overload. Should I just cowash n do an intense moisture treatment now and hot oil...or should i shampoo/chelate to make it start from scratch? Better question...what do you ladies do?

THANKS LADIES!

so i was looking at the older posts on this topic and it seems to me that most of yall dont mess with it the week b4 or wash it this close to the relaxer. so should i just focus on putting moisturizing products on it?

have you ever been inside the salon? if not, please walk in or look into the windows to see it they know how to do hair.

You really shouldn't mess with your hair/scalp all that much the week before the relaxer.

Most people recommend a heavy-duty protein treatment the week before the relaxer. This does not work for me because I stretch at least 13 weeks (going for 18-26 weeks this time--a year if I am feeling brave), hardcore proteins after week 6 are a disaster for me. So, I use a mild protein weekly along with twice weekly moisturizing DC's. Then two weeks AFTER my relaxer I do an Aphogee 2-step.

i agree with the other ladies. i have always been told by stylist that you should not wash the hair that week. they said washing strips the hair of a lot of the oil that is needed to help protect the hair during the relaxer process, and strip the scalp of good amount of oil that will aid in protecting the scalp from burning if some relaxer gets on it (which most times always happens).

now if you insist on washing the hair, i would do a cowash only and base your scalp yourself before going to the shop (to make sure its based good). also put some conditioner on the already processed hair. i just think stripping the hair by washing it and then applying chemical shortly thereafter is too much for the hair. so putting conditioner on before relaxer would be very beneficial. (actually you should do this anyway even if you do not wash prior to).

also in reference to the protein overload, it might be good that you have more protein in your hair right now because your hair is going to deplete a lot of that protein during the bond break-down from the chemical. so you might find that your hair is left with just enough protein for your liking after the relaxer.

I wouldn’t touch it……:nono:…….don’t scratch your scalp under any circumstances :nono: :nono: :nono:, lightly base\oil your sensitive scalp areas the night before and rub some conditioner with silk protein thru your length only (just to nourish your hair, protect it, and make it more manageable), let it air dry completely before you head to the salon. This is what I do, I self-relax. Good luck! HTH ;)
