Hello healthy headed lovelies,
I have been lurking on the site for a few months now, been meaning to join in on all the fun.
I have been natural for about 10 years or so. I used to run some cream of nature through to smooth out the frizz just because I was taught that that was what you needed to do to wear your hair straight. Trail and error taught me that i can straighten with a blow dryer and smooth with a big barrel curling iron and maintain by wrapping. I never had much hair breakage even with the high heat i would use about once every 2-3 weeks. I also as a rule living in humid NYC at the time, would not straighten during the summer and hurrican season, so futile (and wet fried hair smells gross). I went through a period of locking my hair for about 5 years ( two strand twists left in my hair for about 3 weeks then seperated and palmrolled until hair locked. transitioned into actual locks sprouted from the root and chopped the long part off) I got bored of that and then combed out, yes I said combed out my dreads ( I will post about this or you can ask me if you like, it can be done) when i took my locs out i had a head full of gorgeous new hair.
Now I pretty much cowash and go with suave humectant, the best conditioner. detangle with a denman add fruit of the earth aloe and shine it up with coconut oil. I deep condition with cholesterol and thats pretty much it. I am learning so much from reading the forums and never thought much about growing my hair really long. I have been inspired by you ladies and would like to add with any information I can bring.
