Hey Everyone!

This is my very first post ( i signed on yesterday!) I love this site, Here is the problem (s):

1. I have hair the texture of Mya, Tracey Ross, ...kinda mixed-girlish....I think that is 2C? ( Somebody help a sista out) Its shoulder length and when straight, and very fine ...like when I was a kid I NEVER had a fly Jackson 5 afro, because when the wind blew it would fly in that direction...curl pattern changed later in life, it used to be wavy like Latifiah's, now when its pulled back its straight. It is also a bit moisture deprived.

2. I work out almost everyday (and am committed to do this, no turning back!) and sweat out my hair EACH TIME. Honestly, I can't stop the sweat! I can't stop the moisture from curling up my hair. Or humidity, or the rain....

3. Although I have been natural (fully) since 2004 ( I chopped and started fresh) I CAN'T GET ANY LENGTH BEYOND WHAT I KEEP GETTING. Probably because I was Chi-ing the hell out of it! I am committed to chilling out on the heat... since looking at this site I am convinced that my hair will grow .

The other problem,

I DONT WANT TO WEAR IT CURLY (because it is not all the way curly in all places), I also really prefer it straight, curly to me feels like my vacation look.....I don't know how to make it look sleek without adding the heat.

I tried the roller-set/saran wrap bit, it DOES NOT look straight, the roots are still curly and my hair looks fuzzy ( I look like a cotton ball)

Here is what I do:

Wash, DC, wrapping lotion, spritz of Infusium IC, a dab of gloss serum.... roll with purple rollers, take out wrap, a tiny bit bit more serum, saran wrap, dryer 20 minutes and ...it doesn't even look like a roller set it does feel silky though...

HELPPPPPPPPP!!!!! BECAUSE I AM ITCHING TO JUST CHI IT!!!!! But I want it to grow....

BTW, I just started my "routine" in December. ...but when I get frustrated, I just wear it curly.. and I think that it is to stressful to keep pulling back in a sever bun aka,EASY

WELCOME!!

I would focus on deep conditioning the hair from all that heat you are using, then maybe try the roller sets again. Try staying away from direct heat as much as possible. Im sure others will chime in with advise

Conditioning with yogurt and honey, henna, and styling with twistouts, braidouts, or bantu knot outs are good choices.

Welcome! I'm not sure what to tell you since I don't have your texture, but I'm sure that someone here can help you out. :)

it probably doesn't curl all the way from heat damage. look up pinkskates, she exercises a lot and wears her hair straight most of the time.

It can be hard to get past SL when you wear your hair out all the time especially if your hair is dry. Try wearing it off your shoulders especially when you are wearing cotton.

Hi....welcome.

I'm a little perplexed about your question - if you want to wear your hair straight, you either have to use a) chemicals or b) heat. (If I'm wrong, someone, please correct me.)

Since you don't want to damage your hair by using either, it would probably be best for your to practice twist outs or braidouts and embrace your curls! lol That would work best with your lifestyle (working out a lot). Just do straight styles for special occassions. My hair is not natural, but this is just my two cents. A lot of DCing and wearing it up temporarily until you get over this growth hump will probably help, too.

I also thing PS (protective styles) get boring, but they can be really helpful.

My hair is similar to yours (fine, flyaway, curls up the minute I work out, and never really gets straight no matter what). I don't like to wear mine curly either, but I had to eventually accept that I could have straight hair, or long hair, but not both. I decided to stop "torturing" it straight. "Straight-ish" has to be enough for me. I will never flatiron or blow dry it. I am texlaxed now so I can wear it relatively straight with rollersets (putting my hair in a big pincurl or braid on top of my head to work out, tying down my hairline till it's dry), and wash n' go styles in the summer.

You are probably going to have to make peace with your hair. Don't try so hard to make it do something it's not meant to do. Try to appreciate its versatility. I know a lot of people are against cones but I am finding recently that they are a MUST for my hair if I want to wear it sorta straight. Experiment with using more than a 'dab" of serum and see what happens.
