I searched the internet and did not find any hair care website for AA muslim that uses relaxers. PLEASE HELP ME....

I started wearing my hejab more this year and I am thinking that maybe I need to change what i do to my hair. I was told that hair that is relaxed does not take heat very well BUT I really don't want to go natural....There are two African American muslim that I know one been natural all her life and the other, well her hair it tow up (she has verrrrry thin hair b/c she uses curling iron/flat iron improperly). All the other muslim ladies that I know are of another race.

I am 4a/4b
(I don't have anything to measure my hair so excuse my Ghetto measurements--->My hair is now at the base of my neck right above my shoulders)
I am currently using Motions, MNT, WGO, MTG (I thought about doing the baggie method since I wear a hejab no one will notice but I got too lazy). Seastian Potion 9, Caribbean Creme, Queen Helene Cholesterol, Queen Helene Hot oil treatment, replenishing mica spray polish, Smooth 'N shine Polishing. Sometimes I air dry, roller set/airdry or rollerset/dryer-once to twice a week.

The material of my hejab are very light so my head does not sweat. If I wear a cotton hejab I always put a satin/silk scarf under it.

Hello! Not sure if you had a specific question but sounds like you have a decent regemin down. The baggie method would be good to protect your ends as you have already mentioned.

Hey Amina, I don't think that you need to change anything that you currently do. So, you're too lazy to baggie, but you rollerset your hair? I don't know any hijabis who actually do their hair unless somene will see it. I say just wash your hair, etc. and let it air dry and baggie; use that hijab to your advantage lassie!

yes, I agree, I'm not sure what the issue is here... but it sounds like you're doing the right things. I can't see where wearing a hijab should be problematic.

i wrapped my hair for a year and your regimine sounds great. you just have to protect your hijab from your products and your hair from the hijab. the material can be drying. so the baggie between the two is perfect. you may want to consider trying it again

I do not have any suggestion to offer but Just saying "hey" to a fellow Louisianan

Hello to you too

Thanks for the replies...
I guess what I am worrying about is if my hair would thin out since I am wearing a hejab the majority of the time...The only time I remove it is if I am in a room full of ladies only or if I am in my dorm. I have a full day (classes, work) so I am out and about from 8am to around 5pm (that is how long my hair is covered) 5 days a week. Every now and then I run to the rest room to shake my hair loose so it won't be flat (for like 5 sec.)

Thanks Queenie, I will be sure to contact Umsammyah(sp?) soon.
