This raises a quesion.... Does heat make a difference? I have a heat cap(had since I was a kid) and now I hear that some folks don't bother-- they just leave the conditioner on for a bit longer..
The last time I shampooed I used time NOT heat...it came out nice!
I've heard that heat help to get the product down deeper in the the cortex of the hair. That's supposed to be a good thing. I don't know if that would be a difference that would be so easily noticed though.
Allandra is the Mastex a microwave cap? If so, does it retain any of the radiation? I've always had that question concerning microwave caps but no answer.

Do you think the steam in the shower is enough if you have a conditioning cap on?
Some ladies go into steam rooms with their conditioner on their hair for a deep conditioning tx so I would think it should work provided you get as much steam and warmth in you bathroom.
I've tried staying in the shower with conditioning caps (not heat caps) and it didn't do much for my hair. The oil just ran down my face.
I've also tried using no heat and it makes my hair feel moisturized but I have to leave it on for hours. I can tell the difference between cold conditioning (no heat) and sitting under the dryer with the deep conditioner (usually softer, shinier, more moisturized hair) I just don't want to pay an extra $5-10 (yes, I am a cheap, cheap person
) just to sit under the dryer for 5-10 minutes. The stylist are probably laughing at me as they count my money.
I have used both the Mastex and the Micro Hair Cap. I had two Gold n Hot's. Neither one lasted longer than the Sally's warranty.
Now I sit under a hooded dryer.
I think the caps were smashing my hair, partially drying it and making the tangles worse...
@vev:
I think some conditioners work better w/ heat and some w/o heat. I always use heat with my protein conditioners. In my mind the heat is making it go down real deep.
But I'm pretty lax with moisturizing conditioners. Sometimes I use heat for 5-10 minutes--I usually don't bother.
Hi Sassy,
You know I rememer reading somewhere that the electric caps weren't a good thing for people who don't have a relaxer because it can cause the hair to become tangled but that a dryer was better for naturals. Have you ever come across anything like that?

I'm not sure, but I think I read the same thing at growafrohairlong.com... I know I got some great shampooing tips from that site.
I dusted off the dryer and it works like a charm! I still use the heat caps if I'm going to be away from home for longer than a week, though.
I can't wait until my relatives see my shampoo/deep condition routine at Christmas time. They will probably have me committed to an asylum!
They are true minimalists when it comes to hair care.
boadicea i got the belson from tenderheaded. It works great although, it seems like it takes longer for the cap to heat up compared to when i first bought it eight months ago. The results for me are better than under the hairdryer.
For anyone that is interested in the recently discontinued and very sought after Belson/Gold N' Hot soft bonnet dryer GH2138 pictured here http://www.amazon.com/Belson-Ionic-Bonnet-Dryer-Gh2138/dp/images/B0012DOK9Q, I have a close friend that sells products online that was able to find a some.
It's great for conditioning. I love mine. He's got limitied quanities so PM me and I'll get you the information. Thanks!
