Headbands/Scarves trains your hair to lay down?

I'm wondering if wearing these would somehow train the areas it rests on to lie down? This isn't my intention at all, but just something I've noticed it's been doing as of late.

I ask because previously when I would do a wash n go, I would put gel, water or mango butter on the perimeter of my head and put the headband/scarf on. But as soon as it's taken off, it would usually curl back up on it's own. But as of late(approx 3 weeks ago), I noticed that if I use minimal products, like just a leave-in(in a hurry), on my hair and slap one on, it's fine. But once I take it off, it lays there flattened into waves and doesn't bulge until water hits it, and then poof it's ALIVE!!:lachen:

Anyone else experience this? Is this normal for natural hair? TIA!

I use my whipped shea butter because its kind of heavy and tie the scarf tight then pull the flaps back that hand on my head so that it pulls my hair back. When enough time has passed, I loosen the scarf a little. When I take it off, its waves!

Aloe vera kinda helps too.

No, no, no, you misunderstood me. What I'm saying is that usually my hair would come curling back up on it's own after some time has passed after I have taken the headband off. But as of late it doesn't do that anymore, it just lays there flattened into waves similar to like you brush a baby's soft hair and it stays? Welp now it stays there, but soon as I throw some water on it, it'll puff right back up. I mean I'm not complaining or anything, but just wanted to know if this was normal for my hair to do this. I have no problem at all making my hair stay in place nor the products I use. I was used to see it curl back up eventually, but now it'll last until I get ready to wash it.

littlegoldlamb, umm I don't even use heat on my hair except for sometimes when I'm doing a deep conditioning. So you're saying the only way hair can be trained if it's using heat only??:perplexed

I have heard before that you could train your hair to lay down using headbands and scarfs. My old stylist use to suggest this when my nape was cute really short.

I believe that your hair can be trained in this way. I wash my hair and apply ORS Olive Oil to the edges and put on a headband, kind of similar to the one in your pic, and my hair lays down great. It will stay like that, just like you said. I wear the headband everyday, but around the house, I try not to so I don't stress my hairline. I don't use any heat either. If you use a wide headband, your hair will be trained to lay down....even after it's taken off. Just my opinion.

My hair does the same thing - I think (personally) it means that your hair is softer, now. Think of how soft a babies hair is, and how it will just lay down anywhere. As you treat your hair better and get it's moisture up, it gets softer - and thus 'lays' more and stays better......

Ya think? Welp I guess I must be doing something right LOL Because it's definitely soft indeed. Thanks Kiya!
