I think its awesome that you ask questions and seek out advice before taking actions, you'll save yourself alot of trouble going about life that way:yep:

You're still very new, hang out here some more, take in all the info, and you'll be on your way.....you seem like you'll be a quick learner.

You know what, From what I'm gathering from your join date and post number that you are relatively new. I wish that people will stop acting like they were never new and once had several questions about hair care practices. I can't tell you not to feel silly , because based on some of these condescending responses any one can't help but to feel silly, but you shouldn't feel silly for asking questions and finding out answers. You asked your question, you made your poll, you got a general idea based off the answers and that is great. I hope this doesn't discourage you for asking questions in the future. You are here to learn and happy hair growing.

No, I guess I just like taking short cuts, now that I do my hair on my own and am natural. I don't think I could ever go to the salons for a texlax, and I don't want anybody putting it in because I would be forced to hear them giving me advice and the "I told you so". It was only going to be a dime size amount of relaxer, just to slightly make it a bit more manageable.

I have tried combing with oils and conditioner, it does help :yep:. I just hate getting oil on my hands

I guess I should just stop being lazy

Well.....I dont know if anyone can really fault you for WANTING to take short cuts, but i have to believe that alot of ladies here, myself included, made major hair mistakes in the past or before LHCF days all in the name of taking short cuts.

Oils seem to work for alot of people, my hair HATES oils. My hair became so hard to comb through that I just decided to texlax. I don't trust ANYONE to do my hair at this point so I felt if i want it done right, i have to do it myself. I researched on here and asked some questions ( some which may have seemed silly to others!). My 1st texlax was the first time i ever did my own relaxer and it came out great, But.... it took time and extreme caution.

And nomoweavesfome is right. Don't feel silly for asking.

BlackMasterPiece thanks, I knew from the beginning that was too young. My whole head used to be texlaxed (I used to beg my mom not to leave the relaxer in too long because I wanted it to still be curlyish). When I say I used to use remnants of a relaxer, I mean I would take the relaxer left over from when I got my hair relaxed and use it on the rougher parts of my hair (I was 14 or 15 when I did this) and wash it out after a couple of minutes. I am a recent natural. My hair is in pretty good condition, despite small heat damage I have in the front from trying to keep my natural hair straight with a sew in when I was transitioning. I mainly use protective styles. I think it is APL right now? Haven't done a length check in a while. I have attached a picture of my hair from November(the fro) and March 2009(transitioning). Hopefully they will post.

Thank you for your product suggestions ladies. Smuckie, I think I have used the LeKair before, I liked it, I don't know why I stopped using it. I currently use suave conditioners on my hair and I usually just wash it with shampoo. I have to wait to get a job before I buy some of these products, lol, but I think my hair will be better then.

And you aren't being to harsh TwistNMx, I consider this thread a big reality check. I hope I do not come off as ignorant, I really do try to protective style and take care of my hair, I just wasn't aware that relaxers were that harsh.

And I use conditioner and olive oil to DC every 2 weeks.

The bolded is why many black women IRL don't have long, healthy hair. You really need to educate yourself on the chemicals you are going to put on your hair before you do it. And by YOU I don't mean you personally nana, I'm speaking in general.

:nono::nono: to the bolded. This stuff is VERY strong. It makes a good drain cleaner. I'm serious. After a family member had a bad experience with it, that's how we used up the rest of the bottle.

There are better options for texlaxing.

Unfortunately this was used on my hair when I was a girl. It broke my hair off, and my hair was never the same since. (Due to continuous relaxing, and heat damage) I'm only now getting a decent head of unbroken healthy hair again. 20+ years later!
