It's an idea I thought about when I got tired of the inability to comb through my hair. I wonder if it gives the same effect of texlaxing. Has anyone tried this before, or at least thought of it?

I don't understand why you would do this. Relaxers are strong chemicals which should be used with caution and not mixed willy nilly? :look:

That method sounds very scary.:nono:
Sounds like all kinds of hair disaster could ensue.
Why not just add oils like some texlaxed ladies do?

I voted um...no.
"Um" because I'm confused and "no" because well...just NO!

sound like an over processing nightmare ending in weak, limp and broken hair

it would be better to saturate your hair in oil and conditioner then detangle with a wide tooth comb from tip to root
works for me

So I am guessing I am the only person who has played around with this idea?

:look:

I just thought it would be easier and less damage, since it will be washed out faster than a regular relaxer would be.

You'd still have chemicals in your hair, and would still have to follow up with a neutralizing shampoo.

Yeah bad idea.

@ bolded: I re-read the original post 3x because I didn't think I understood the question either. Got me sitting here looking all dumbfounded.

Nope! The thought has never crossed my mind, even when I was texlaxed. Please go with the advice of just using conditioner and oil to comb/detangle or just do a regular old texlax--but do not mix relaxer w/ shampoo.

WTH!!! You better NOT do that! Don't make us come over there and :spank: you!

Ya'll remember on the 'Wayans brother' when Marlon joined that cult....thats just how your hair will end up looking.

You won't have to worry about combing you hair after this because you won't have any left!

Seriously, please do not try this.

Well dang, now I feel silly

Good thing I haven't tried it. Thanks ladies!

That's what we all here for. To learn and share. :yep:

Have you thought of texlaxing?

There are many threads on it and depending on how you do it you can keep your kinks like happily me or go more straight say like Taz07.

This sounds like a disaster and a MAJOR setback just waiting to happen:nono:

OP, please don't entertain that idea an longer. We don't want your next thread to be a "Help! I added some relaxer to my shampoo and now my hair won't stop falling out!" thread:yep:

Yes would be the only person who has played around this idea. :nono:

This is not a good idea at all. You every thought about what this combination would do to you if it got in your eyes or nostrils or run down your back and face? As shampoo often does?

No, I guess I just like taking short cuts, now that I do my hair on my own and am natural. I don't think I could ever go to the salons for a texlax, and I don't want anybody putting it in because I would be forced to hear them giving me advice and the "I told you so". It was only going to be a dime size amount of relaxer, just to slightly make it a bit more manageable.

I have tried combing with oils and conditioner, it does help :yep:. I just hate getting oil on my hands

I guess I should just stop being lazy

Absolutely not! :nono:

If you want more of a texlaxed look, add oils to your relaxer and neutralize properly.

Sounds like a good idea

OP what you are talking about already exists and people from the Caribbean have been using it for decades. I used it and damaged my hair but that was before LHCF. It gave me the manageability I was looking for but it made my hair dry. I know now that I was using the wrong products because it is a texlax.

I definitely don't recommend this to anyone. The hair forum is open to unregistered guests, so I hope they're careful when reading this thread.

YS please tell me they no longer sell this product. That is just shocking :nono:

I remember this, and it's definitely a lot different than a 'traditional' lye or no-lye relaxer.

Saw some in my mom's cabinet this week-end. Anywhere you find Jamaicans, Vigorol is sure to be there. It's an ammonium thioglycolate relaxer which makes your hair really dry but it doesn't do so more than a relaxer IMO. I would never use it again because I am totally opposed to chemicals especially now that I know that I can use some henna or the Cherrylola to temporarily loosen my curls.
