BEFORE you get to the salon?:look:

I really, dislike salons. I don't want to go but I do believe when I go there, I get better end results than when I do it myself.

I'm taking down my weave today washing, proteining and putting it in a bun before my wash/set appointment tmo with Mike @ Mohair salon in NYC.

Is this crazy? It's just that, in it's weakened state, I don't want him blowdrying and all this manipulation without me doing my OWN protein treatment... is this crazy?:spinning:

I'm also bringing my products with me for my appt tmo.. Just saying

Nope its smart and proactive. The way we should all be as discerning black women customers. Maybe if we were all so demanding every chicken, cat, dog and hen wouldn't think they could hang up their shingle and call them-self a stylist or hairdresser and the bar for customer services would be raised. I do this all the time now and give step by step instructions of what I want done.

I also do not like them using their combs in my hair unless I can see evidence of a steriliser.

Do ya thing girl.

Absolutely not. When I lived in TN (and when my hair was the healthiest) I would wash, detangle, and blow dry my hair before my appt. She would press and style (I lived on campus and could not press my hair in the dorm and was not good with a flat iron yet). I had thick, curly hair and I just did not trust anyone to take the time with it so I did it myself.

Also I notice that when they DC hair at the hairdresser they are always watching the clock so its not in their interest to give you a full treatment as that means you will be occupying a chair and the till will not be ringing so much because of the lack of turnover.

Good move OP. Do what you need to do to keep that hair on you head.

I agree!! I just detangled my hair and I'm about to have an anxiety attack thinking of the hairdresser getting into my 1 year of new growth. I kind of want to take a sick day and do a deep protein and a deep condish with a light shampoo just so I don't feel "naked".

When I had a relaxer, I rollerset my hair 4-5 days before my next relaxer to ENSURE she knew where my demarcation line was.

I TOTALLY feel you on this. Seriously- my last hairdresser was like: I ahve been taking care of hair for the last 15 years.. OK, I wanna know what they look like bc you been takin care of mine for 10 min and I'm ready to go home!

Your not crazy your smart!

I feel like a stylist job is to style.... Is is our responsiblity to care for our strands :)

Now just lay down the law if he busts out with the scissors... Im so sick of stylisth hacking away at my LHCF sisters hair :(

I used to wash , condition my hair before going for a trim. There's no way I'd let them wash and blow dry my hair. They used to make me feel bad for doing so, so in the end I stopped going to that hairdresssers.

I wash, DC apply heat protection and allow them to blowdry.
The next time I go, I'm doing the same thing except for I want him to blowdry my hair in sections. The whole free form natural afro and then rake the brush through with a blowdryer is not working for me anymore. In fact, I might pre-blowdry.
It was just too painful....
