The thread about simplicity made me think about my hair..
Now although previously my hair care regimine wouldnt be considered simple at all
It was simpler than what I do now..

Lets try this simple challenge someone come up with some rules :)

I've been keeping it really simple lately. I used to wash, dc leaving it in for hours, put leave in, rollerset and sit under the dryer, then tkae the rollers out wrap it, and then leave it for an hour, unwrap it and then apply serum and then wrap it again.

Now all I do is: wash it, dc for 45mins-1hr, condition, leave in conditioner and airdry in a ponytail. Next morning I bun it up and go.

Yay! I'm ready for this! Let's keep the rules to a minimum though. I think this should be really focused on learning and making new shortcuts. My problem now is that my hair really feels greasy all the time. I think it might be from product overload. I'm trying to find a light mist moisturizer. Here's one I've heard of

http://www.walgreens.com/store/prod...mp&navCount=0&skuid=sku1901163&id=prod1901683

This sounds more up my alley...I also think some conditioners are so packed with moisture that a leave-in moisturizer might not be needed. Next time I wash/condition I'm going to skip out on moisturizing and see if the greasy feeling is gone by the morning.

This is a good idea and I love the abbrievated name for it. I'm in!

Lately after reading a post by Sistaslick I decided just to listen to my hair. And I find that what it's ususally telling me is to moisturize it and then leave it the H*ll alone  . So keeping it simple is what I've been doing and plan to continue.
One temporary thing that I've been using is MN to assist in growth, I mix it with my moisturizer and/or apply it straight, is this against the challenge rules? I'll only be using for another few weeks.

I don't think we have any rules yet. I am using MTG, not really for growth, just mainly because I like it. I'm also trying to listen to my hair since right now my hair is telling me to lay off the products!

I think some rules could be...

use products with multiple uses
dont buy extra products if you have what works
no extra growth aids other than vitamins...(i guess)

someone add on or correct me if need be.

Well I'm getting to know what's good for me so I will only use these products

Shampoo:Tresemme
Clarifying Shampoo: Suave
Conditioner: VO5 Champagne Kiss
Light Protein Conditioner: Tresemme (rarely needed)
Moisturizer: NTM DDC
Sealant: Coconut oil
Edges and Ends: Elasta QP mango butter

Although I have a million more products. I just realized that I have eight conditioners just in my shower! I gotta cut back!

From now until my next touchup I'm not buying any new products. I'm going to use EVERYTHING up. If it didn't work great for me I'm going to try to make it work. Here's what I have so far

1. Wash/Cowash Tuesday and Friday in shower
2. Apply 1 leave-in
3. ponytail airdry

In the morning
1. If hair feels dry, use a little moisturizer. If hair doesn't feel dry mist a little water and seal with oil.
2. Style as usual

Before bed
1. baggie on ends
2. Satin scarf

After my next touchup at the end of August my products will change. I am counting only 7-8 regular products. Trying to cut that down even more. I do use MTG, but not really as a growth aide. It helps with my itchy scalp. I also take vitamins, they help with hair moisture.

Here's my inspiration for keeping it simple.

amazing hair growth without time consuming product heavy regimens.

      WOW! Thanks for sharing that thread...it was soooooo inspiring. I am really going to alter my hair care routine after reading that and I thought that it was simple! Thanks sooo much for this info.

KhandiB best wishes with the challenge....I would join but I think the regimen/consistency challenge that I am on captures my simplicity.

Do well Ladies!!

This is great. However it would be difficult to establish rules since everyone has a different regimen. I would say let cut down our regimen from let say 10 steps down to 5 or less.. you get the idea.

Agree'd

How about we do what Double R and Wishin did..

Just list how you are going to simplify your routine..

and lets make it until 12/31 ...

That will go along with my no clippin challenge :D

I have really simplify my regimen and I am very happy about it. I am saving time and lots of money.

Deep con during the week end or overnight.

Wash, wet set and airdry overnight.
In the middle of the week bun for an easy styling.

Products I use
nexxus shampoos and conditioner
Mayo, coconut oil
Water for roller set

sounds good. i've drastically changed my routine. even tho i add moisturizer every day now, i dont fiddle with my hair so much as i keep it in the same direction (combed back) all week.

my regime is:

  • finger comb every 2 days 2 rid tangles
  • comb every 5 days
  • moisturize once per day
  • deep treat once every 6 days

and thats it!

I have been keeping it simple. I actually find that I have more time to do other things because of it.

I used to spend so much time on my hair.

Now that I have been airdrying and wearing my hair up everyday, things have been so nice.

I clarify and moisturize shampoo bi weekly. I use a rinse conditioner on one of those night and a deep conditioner on the other (on the weekend).

I apply my leave ins and serum and then airdry while I do other things around the house.

I flat-iron lightly and tie my hair up for bed. I do moisturize daily.

In the morning I just put my hair up with my favorite damage and pain free jaw clip.

OK, my plan is to keep it simple by cuttin down all the stuff i do while not sacrificing style :)

I will wear more protective styles (braidouts, twist outs, bantu knot sets, high buns)

I will not blow dry..

I will TRY to only use direct heat on the week of my touch ups :) (unless I get a maxi glide - then I will use direct heat every 3 weeks or so)

I am gonna try and find a good detangler and leave in and choose a couple of poo's and conditioners that I wanna use, I think this will be alot simpler if I find a great leave in :)

This is all in conjunction with still DC'n every wash, not clipping til Dec, and still trying to get to BSL by 12/31

Everyones plans sound so good! So last night I did it simple...and loved it! I took care of my hair while in the shower and it still came out pretty good. I had to do an Aphogee Heavy Protein treatment last night. I've done it once and was afraid that if I did it again it would do more harm than help...but actually my hair needed it!!! My hair seems to thrive on protein...so I'll be doing these treatments every 6-8 weeks post touchup. Here's what I did...

After my treatment hardened I jumped in the shower and rinsed it out...then I slathered on a mixture of all the conditioners I'm trying to get rid of and threw on a shower cap. I proceeded with my shower while running my head underneath the water to let my hair steam inside the cap. Towards the end of my shower I removed the shower cap and let some more steam hit it and finally rinsed it out. I then mixed some NTM silk touch with my Creme of Nature conditioner sample (I'm truly trying to get rid of ALL these hair products!) and slapped that on soaking wet hair. THEN I added a little more water to it and clipped it up. I threw a shower cap on so that I could get dressed without water dripping everywhere. I threw on my satin scarf and that was all she wrote.

This morning my newgrowth felt very soft and my hair was the straightest its ever been. I thought that I would have to comb my hair in the shower, but I didn't even have to touch the comb at all! My hair detangled on its own with the shower water. So I can really eliminate having to comb altogether except for when I do a style. I put my hair in two indian braids and I used a little water + conditoner on the ends. I placed each end in a baggie and tied a scarf around my head. I love the simplicity of this. The only downside to this is that my hair needs a little more moisture. However, cream moisturizers weigh my hair down and gives me the greasies. Otherwise, this worked really well for me.

I've decided that I'll only need to really sit with conditioner on my head every three weeks or so. A quick conditon works just fine for me. My own personal challenge now is to get rid of ALL my hair products by Aug 25th. It's going to be hard but the key is to find many uses for one product. Hope everyone else's regimen is working out great...

Great Goin Double R!

Im washing 2nite with the Garlic Poo.. and Im doing a 2 min reconstructor a moisture treatment..

Im doing the same thing as you, Im tryin to get rid of most of my products.. but Im assuming with more of the protective styling I will be doing I will be co-washing more, and I co wash with cholesterol :)

I will be out of my CON Green in about 2 more washes and then Im gonna try that Quantam

IM so excited about this Simple Challenge

My simple routine:

1. Clarify shampoo 1x week. ( Aloe Rid and Grandpa's Pine Tar Bar. ) Followed by loaded deep conditioner that contains the oils, moisturizers and hair strengtheners and protein that I keep premixed in the fridge. I add AVC to this just before applying. Go under microwaveable heating cap. Rinse off in one hour. Pin hair up into a quick ponytail wrap without the holder and wrap for the night in satin scarf.
2. Apply scalp and follicle stimulator treatment (premixed) the following night. I do this twice a week. Pin back up for the night.

3. Oil the ends 1x week only if necessary. Seldom is.

My premixes last for one-two months.
My scalp stimulator mix lasts for one month.

I comb every three days since my hair is not relaxed and very fine stranded to avoid any knots or tangling up. With this method, I am able to comb through super easy. My daily style is the same wrap that looks half beehive and half bun. bonjour

Ok, this is what I did today :D

I washed with Queen Helene's Garlic Poo (for my shedding) (BTW I LOVE this stuff)
Followed CON - Green (Garlic Poo kinda works like a Clarifier)
Used CPR as my rinse out, put it on my hair covered it with a shower cap while I washed shaved etc...
Rinsed it out while detangling under the shower..
I then used the Kids Organic Shea Butter Detangling Moisturizing Lotion (this stuff is the Bizzomb!!) mixed with some Silk Touch and Kemi Oyl,
Also used Elasta QP Glaze (Love It!!!!), put my hair in a bun..

Im sooooo happy that
#1 - I can finally do a bun
#2 - It only took me 20 minutes total to do my hair today and Im satisfied :D

I'm brand new to these boards, but I've lurked for a while.

I'm interested in this challenge for sure. I'm on a college budget, so sometimes less is better.

My routine:

I wash twice a week
I condition wash every day or every other day
Air dry, usually in a roller set
I only relax every 4-6 months (haven't had once since mid-April)
shea butter is a daily staple to moisture as is liquid mayo

i decided a couple of months ago that i was gonna keep things simple when i go to grad school because i'll have no time to be messing with my hair like how i was in undergrad. im gonna buy a wig and i plan on

poo and deep condition every week
moisturize twice a day (my hair is really dry)
rebraid every wash day

besides that i plan on having a healthy diet (lots of water, fruits, veggies, salmon (protein) i want to include exercising but im not sure if i'll have time.

so count me in the challenge. im hoping i get to shoulder length by may 2008. (my hair grows slow)

I gotta get some of that Garlic shampoo...Sounds good. We have some of that Kids Organic Shea Butter stuff laying around. It smells heavenly..my little sisters use it. I'm going to simplify my routine even more! It sounds crazy but I'm inspired by the older women I see with long hair who do very little to their hair. For me less has always been more.

Anyone know of a good, inexpensive clarifying shampoo that can be found at a BSS?

I heard CON clarifying is good..
Should only be about 3.99...

I use Suave Clarifying ( Rusk knockoff)
