In Duane Reade they had a few of the shampoos and conditioners on sale for 50% off. I picked up the Purify & Nourish shampoo, and the Health Infusing for Normal hair shampoo.

Has anyone used the John Frieda "Root Awakening" products?

Me! I've been using the Root Awakening for breakage defense for the last year. Its one of my favorite shampoos. It really smooths out my hair without stripping it or drying it out. I rotate conditioners and have not used the JF one for a while but it seemed to be OK.
I like the shampoo since it has the eucalyptus. It stimulates my scalp, tingles and helps with dandruff too
