Has anyone used Red Palm Butter

Yes, my hair is natural and red palm butter keeps it moisturized for days. I really like that I don't have to cowash daily when using this, but I'm afraid I have to give it up. It stains everything and I just can't tolerate it anymore .

You know, I have a tub of this upstairs under my sink. I don't know how to use it. It stains? Hmmm, no wonder it's still under my sink. Any ideas on how to use it so it doesn't stain?

Not really. It has a natural RED color, and it does stain; however, it washes out with no problem. I really like it though.

I use it but mostly for pre-poo'ing because I can't stand the smell. It's very conditioning though and makes your hair easy to comb because of all the slip it has. It gives a good shine to the hair too but I just can't deal with that smell.....it smells like when you've been cooking and the smell gets in your clothes, that's the only way I can describe it.

The only thing I can say do is to dilute it. If I don't it will stain my fingernails, countertops etc. I just use 1 part RPB to 4 parts of another oil. It still works for me how I want it.

Very very familar with red palm butter/oil because it is a staple food here in west africa and I eat stuff cooked in it all the time -- LOVE it. I do think it may be an acquired smell/taste though. It stains like a mother, but washes out of clothes and stuff pretty easily.

I have never used on my hair and the ladies here don't either. They laugh when I asked about using palm oil for hair. BUT, they do use Palm Kernel Nut Oil on hair, which is DA BOMB! Palm kernel nut oil and palm oil is from the same palm tree, but the nut oil is made from crushing the palm nuts extracting the oil inside the nuts and the red palm oil is made from fruit surrounding the outside of the nut. Hope that makes sense . . .

The palm tree is called the "tree of life" here. They used it for EVERYTHING, from the oils described above, to making palm wine (delicious AND potent)! to eating the fruit and using the leftover to dry in the sun and use for fire to using the palm leaves for so many things: roofs on huts, fences, etc. . . Anywho, this way kinda OT . . .

Thanks for the extra info, Neroli!!

How weird I brought 100% pure palm butte today, the white one, from the market, the guy sells black soap etc al African and West Indian made produce.

Its thick but like shea butter melts in your hands and its white, the red one is the processed one for cooking, so you can get palm butter to put in you hair that wont stain.

Hmmmm. I've never heard of white palm butter -- the only palm oil I've seen here in west africa is red. I'll ask the locals tomorrow if there's such a thing as while palm oil. Perhaps you have Palm Kernel Nut Oil whic is not red, but a neutral color like most other oils is much more expensive because more labor intensive to produce than the more common red oil . . .
