I just purchases this because I want to transition to a textlaxed style and a friend suggested this. Is it just a mild perm? If it doesn't work like expected will I be able to then go back and use a relaxer? Help me!

I used this back in December to lightly texturize my hair which had been natural for 2.5 years. It is just a mild relaxer, so you can really use any mild relaxer kit you prefer with similar results I'm sure.

I do like the sunflower oil that comes with it, which helps to slow down the chemical reaction. I left it on for 10 min and my tightly curled 4a hair was stretched, same curls just longer. My hair is still soft and I have not experienced any breakage whatsoever. I have never never used a box relaxer before, so I can't compare, but if I had to do it over again, I would.

I have pics in my album if you want to see, and I am sure if you wanted to use it to completely straighten, you could just skip the oil and leave it on a little longer with some smoothing.

ETA: I was also wondering about going back to a regular relaxer also, hopefully someone will enlighten us, but I would think it would be damaging since overlapping chemicals is not a good idea

Thanks! I'm relaxed and I have like 2 inches of new growth. I'm going to try it this weekend. Are there any relaxed/texlaxed girls who have tried it? I just want to know what those results were!

Ive used this product before and i would recommend using an mild relaxer like silk element mild. the jfm made my hair so dry.

It is a relaxer in sheep's clothing. The main "relaxing" ingredients are calcium hyrdroxide and guanidine carbonate. The calcium hydroxide is an alkaline that is substituted for lye in "no-lye" relaxers, which is actually worse for the hair than sodium hydroxide(lye). When used in combination with guanidine carbonate, they create a permanent waving affect(what the hair industry calls 'texturizing'), but can still straighten the hair. Any chemical that alters the structure of the hair has the potential to straighten the hair.

Those two ingredients together can be VERY drying. Be careful.

You are welcome! And I would suggest doing a search if you have not already because this product was discussed more a while back.

This stuff relaxed my hair bone strait, and it was dry as all get out:sad:

A friend of mine used it as I instructed and got textlaxed hair. Her sister used it as a regular bone straight perm and it burnt her hair. She had to get an emergency hair cut......so she told me.

I used it back in December 08 and I used the whole bottle of sunflower oil in the container. It was ok. I was able to smooth my edges bone straight like a regular relaxer and the rest was texlaxed. I did notice my hair was much dryer than normal and I did notice some breakage. I started doing protein and moisture treatments and it has slowed down considerably. I say try using a regular mild relaxer and add oil. You may come out better without so much dryiness. JMO.

I've tried it twice and it breaks off my hair. Both times it was done by a stylist who often does styles with texturizers. Once when I was relaxed and the other time when I was natural. It only breaks my crown off though. For everywhere else on my head it never became loose and curly. My hair would turn straight and puffy. I do have an s and 5 spiral pattern so i dont know what went on. Then from there it got drier and drier. So personally I cant recommend it, but I hear good things from others.
