Half & Half Relaxers/Texlaxers

Okay so i was watching Kami (sorry if i messed up her name i know she is on LHCF) but anyways she was doing a half and half relaxer.

Okay so i saw she had clips and a plastic shower bag on one side to protect from water and the relaxer after rinsing one side out. Is there another method to protect your hair? What technique do you use?

What do you do if you get relaxer or water gets on the other dry side? Do you wait a day or two or you go through with it anyway?

Any links to other YT videos tutorials on this? Cause i only found one so far.

I am Natural, still debating about if i should use chemicals again or not. And I am just trying to educate myself if i do this time round.

can you post the link to the youtube video?

I was searching that method today because I was thinking about doing that next relaxer.

I read that some people just wait a couple days to do the other half and some make 4 sections instead of 2

interesting please elaborate

who me? *points to self* lol

I thought it was a cool way of applying a relaxer I never seen anyone do that before. To just do one side of your hair at a time would allow you to work the product through and it would process evenly and you wouldn't have to rush to the other side. It seems like you would be able to focus better on a smaller section.

But I am trying to figure out ways of not getting the chemical on the other side. And when you go to rinse it out what if water gets on the other side? You are not suppose to relaxer on damp or just dried hair (right?) so that mean you would have to wait. I am just trying to see what is the most successful way some half and halfers do their hair without getting it wet or getting relaxer on the other side until they are about to process it *takes a breath* did that make sense?

Me personally, what works for me, is I do the "half and half" method, but I do the front of my head first. This is because I rinse my hair out in the kitchen sink using the spray hose attached to the faucet. If I stretched for a long time, I'll actually rinse it out in fours. I don't put a bag over the other sections. Since I'm rinsing out the front with my head bent over, the water won't touch the section in the back.

If you are using a hose then chances are likely you won't get the other side wet, I've been doing it this way for a while and haven't exeperienced any problems. If you do, by any chance, get a couple of droplets of water on the other side, it is still okay for you to go ahead and process, as long as it's not soaking wet. But again, if you secure the cap tightly and use a hose you shouldn't have that problem

I relax using the half method and have never had a problem with getting chemicals on the other side. That side is covered with a plastic cap. I have gotten that side a little wet when rinsing. I just take my blow dryer and dry it using the cool button. That's it. I haven't had any problems from doing it this way.

Someone has a fotki... londondiva I think... I forget her name. I'll go look and then edit this when I find it. In her fotki she has a great tutorial with pictures about self-relaxing hair in halves.

...

OH NO! I just checked her fotki and it's blocked. So feel free to void my statement.

I do know, however, that she secured the top half of her hair with a plastic shower cap and pins and proceeded to relaxing the NG on the bottom half. After that, she rinsed the bottom half thoroughly. I don't know if I'm recalling correctly, I think she just rinsed and then started relaxing the top half. The pictures would've helped you as she had plenty :(

ooooh that makes so much more sense using a hose...thanks!

thanks ladies for the info! if i did relax i would use this method to apply. i would need that time to do half and half since it would be a virgin relaxer.
