The study shows that common nutrients can influence which genes turn on and off in a developing fetus, and help explain some of the factors that decide which genes “express” and which remain silent.

In other words, if your mom (or Dad) has unmanageable, thick hair that has a mind of its own and which runs in either's family and she ate all the right stuff before you were born, then all the genes you inherited would've been turned on so that you'd get exactly what you were meant to get...a perfect mix of both or a perfect match of either...or of an ancestor. So I don't think Mom's diet or lifestyle's really to blame - esp if your hair is similar to someone in your family. Perhaps her good intentions and extra care at getting all the right nutrients for her and baby (commendable practices, I dare say) is what led you to inherit the very thing that drives you nuts about your hair...coz every single gene in you was alive and well as you developed.

I say the blame goes farther back and beyond Mom

...a few generations, give or take.

Hmm....Heart disease, diabetes, and now hair. To have an optimal good start you definitely need good building blocks.
