I'm 2 weeks shy of 6 months into my transition.
What would you say is my hair type?

It's really hard to get an idea of your hair type when you have so little new growth and so much relaxed ends. I will say the front of my hair is the loosest(3c) and it looked looser than yours when I was transitioning. There's no way your a 3b. If I had to guess I would say 3c at the least. Most likely though a loose 4a.

Audra, before I came in here I'm coming to tell you that you are a 3b/c lol ! And that little pic just confirmed it lol.

It looks 3c ish. I consider myself a loose 4a and my waves are not that deep.

I would say 3b/c...I'm not good at typing though as I thought I was a 4a b4 finding this site so go figure however my hair doesn't look anything like the 3b/c I've seen so yeah.

How do you guys see 3b this is 3b. Her new growth looks tighter than these pics.

You can try cutting a little area somewhere not too visible to know. You can also cut off the relaxer of your shed and wetting it so it gets its form.

I've done both, on my head it looks 3b/3c-ish because it clumps well and it's hangy, but my shed shows me a whole lot 4a sized hair. They aren't obvious when looking at my hair as a whole though, at least not yet, I'm still transitioning.

Definitely try it :yep: below is a pic of some of my shed with the relaxer cut.

So far her new growth looks similar to the new growth in those pics. I would say 3 b/c so far. She does have a lot of relaxed ends that may be weighing the hair down, but it is not in the 4s.

I agree with this. We may not not specifically which 3 she is but she is not a 4. We 4s know each other and she ain't one of us

Okay thanks, I was wondering if people use it to select products, tools, styles, and such. Knowing my natural hair type is all new to me. And to make it extra perplexing, the back is different :/.. Its actually larger waves than the front and the nape is the largest/loosest. This is really interesting, but I will settle on a 3b/c leaning more C. Thanks again ladies

I did the porosity test and it floated/sank just a bit so I think Im low to normal porosity. I did the ponytail test and have medium density hair. What state was my hair supposed to be in for the ponytail test?

I think knowing your curl pattern is nice. However, your porosity, density, and whether your hair is fine, med, or coarse is more important, regarding selecting products etc.

I did my ponytail test with wet natural hair. My wet hair becomes pretty sleek and I can form a tight ponytail that way.
