Has anyone every tried this technique? If I ever have a daughter, this is something I'll do to maintain her hair. But, I cannot see myself doing this to my own hair. Any other stretching techniques?

woooo lawd, I don't have the patience to be doing all that threading and combing and re-threading. I'll stick to banding my daughter's hair, I get my desired results from that and it's quick and easy.

yeah the technique is cool but thats just too much for me. i would just leave my hair in the thread and wear it as a style for a week. i don't have time to do the take down, put back in and then take down and then do the finalized style.

i will try this though when i'm checking my length because i really don't want to use heat. i haven't used heat in 7 years so this will be perfect. or for when i want to do a more thorough trim.

I get the same stretching with braids. And since I braid my hair every night, I can enjoy stretched hair if I wanted to without it feeling like a chore. The pic below shows how when my hair is braided wet and airdried, it stretches nicely (and this is w/o product)--repeats or long term would make it even more stretched.

This is what it looks like before being stretched:

What the lady does in the video is a version of threading--a type of style my mom used to do on my hair. Only my mom didn't leave gaps but the hair was fully wrapped mummy-style in thread. The style was worn for a few weeks and when you took the thread out, your hair looked like it was flat-ironed. It was never done just to stretch hair, but we as kids loved it coz we would have "long hair" once the thread was removed. We discussed this in this thread.

Another way to look at it, this is like banding which some people do in lieu of braiding, but most people I know band their hair for the night and so it doesn't feel "time-consuming" because you're killing two birds with one stone: putting your hair to sleep and stretching it for next day's styling.

I've done this in the past without the re-threading (though now I'm interested in trying it). It actually didn't take me long at all.

Wow i gotta try this. My only negative thought is how my daughter and I hair will handle the tight and tiny thread and if it can cause breakage...maybe i can get the same results with soft thick yarn without feeling like it's cutting through. I'm excited.

Too much work for me; I'd be bad with the technique. I like her channel and the styles she creates on her daughters.

Threading like anything else just takes practice, for instance I could never rollerset my hair every night, even weekly was a chore when I was relaxed but you have ppl who breeze thru it. I've done threading and it does get faster and easier with practice. I've done it nightly too and didn't find it much more work than plaits.

I'd try that the night before a press day. Seem like a good way to get dried detangled hair without the blow dryer. Was she just using weave thread?

After I watched her video I decided to start threading my daughters hair. Not only is it good for stretching its a good technique for retaining moisture. I love how she have a different method for deep conditioning which she does after she washes her daughter's hair. Finally I also tried her Shea butter mix, it's lovely!
