Hair More Resistant to Relaxers After Braids????

I am taking my braids out next weekend and I hope that I don't have that problem! I am waiting a two weeks and re braiding. Whenever I decided to relax (July maybe) I hope my hair won't be resistant!

I have never had this problem. How long after the braids are waiting to relax?

Yup, that is how I became texturized. I think your hair is so healthy that the relaxer can't break it down. I like it now.

My hair just was waayyy underprocessed. I thought it was because the synthetic hair absorbed the moisture out of your hair making it harder for the relaxer to penetrate.

Yup same here. I had human hair though and I kept it very moisturized. I rinsed daily and applied S curl to my hair and some wave noveau products (I had wet n wavy hair). Usually dry hair is weaker and breaks down quickly according to my old hairdresser.

That's very confusing to me.

So if your hair is really, really healthy it will resist relaxers?

I think so sorta along the lines of if your hair is damaged relaxers will make it break off so if it is super healthy it can't really break it down like you would usually want. I guess you would have to up the strength and/or time you leave it on. Both of these were options I did not want to utilize, so I was really struggling with the underprocessed/texturized hair until I found the Pantene detangling spray.

Are you on any new medications Jen? After I started mine last year, my hair became very resistant to perms. Then when I'm on too much, my hair becomes too bone straight.

The healthier and more balanced you are internally, I think your hair is gonna be more resistant. Just my opinion.

Hmmm.... I've only had braids once in my life (silky dreads) and I had a lot of growth while wearing them. I have heard that you should wait after taking out your braids, but i didn't. I permed right after taking them out and the perm DID take and did not damage my hair whatsoever.
Of course, my new growth was healthy but like I said, my hair relaxed normally.

*sigh* Maybe my hair is strange...

Nope I'm not on any new medications....I guess the healthy hair theory is making sense to me now...my hair did become more resistant after using Surge (protein) and wearing braids.

Thanks ladies!

This is funny, I was just wondering the same. I just took out my month-old extensions last weekend and relaxed on memorial day, left the creme in for 30 mins and I still look like I'm 12 weeks post relaxer

I had to turn around a relax again after 2 weeks...scared me to death because I'm not a self-relaxer at all...

I had the same problem after having braids for 3 months and being 9 months post relaxed. I was relaxed with Affirm Lye and the relaxer didn't take in the middle of my hair, now my hair is half texturized half relaxed. I have a picture of what I'm talking about and will post it later.

hmm, this is probably why all my perms reverted when i wore braids. i would perm in between braid sessions sometimes. when i when natural, the perm i had underneath my briads all reverted once i washed it. i didnt cut a thing.

interesting... my hair normally takes after braids it didn't start resisting until the last time i had braids which was last summer.. it took but like urs it came out kinda wavy.. i jus worked with it tho.. this time.. who knows what will happen.. b/c i've started on this hair journey doing things different.. i dont think i'ma get a relaxer right after these braids i'll prolly keep my braids in till end of july..(i'll be retightening most of them) and take them out let em my hair breathe ..and get them again.. i'm not tryna really relax till november possibly...hopefully it will take
