I walked 3 miles yesterday in 85 degree weather. My hair was drenced. Later on my hair dried back up. Any suggestions on hair care for people who work out in the summer. My hair as been doing well. I don't want to set it back.

I work out inside of my home with walking tapes. I know that because you are sweating, you have to rinse more because the salt in the sweat will make your hair dry out really bad.

I agree..the salt from sweating dries out my hair and then my scalp starts to itch. I always had shedding the next day...so I always rinse after exercising.

Sweet cocoa,

This might explain my hair is itching like crazy. I thought it may have been from the PP biotin. Is sweat good for your hair? Does it stimulate hair growth?

Yes, karezone is correct sweat dries hair and causes breakage. Getting the proper exercise does stimulate hair growth but it can all be lost from not washing out the sweat, salt from your hair afterwards.

I was told that iodine (salt) is good for your hair

right now, since it is so hot,i wash my scalp every day with cream of nature. then i do my regular deep conditioning. i let my hair airdry in a bun or one or two braids. my hair is in the best condition ever.

Most days, I work out in a gym--if I were to walk or jog outside, I would DEFINITELY wear a cap. I've heard stories of people having sunburned scalps from not covering their heads. Since I get sweaty nearly every day, I wear my hair in 2-strand twists most of the time--I have to shampoo & redo them about once or twice a week, though, 'cause of the workouts. Yes, it's a lot of work, but it's worth it to me, for the health of my hair.

I would think the actual act of sweating would be good for your head and scalp. But don't even think about combing your hair before rinsing it out. And if you let the hair dry do NOT comb your hair.

You will definately have breakage. I've done conditioner rinses 4 or 5 times a week for years now because of this.

The head getting hot a a result of exercise is great for the growth, but the sweat as a result of the head getting hot isn't.

I wore a braid out last week when my hair was drenched from sweat. My hair did appear really dry and nothing would bring back the moisture. I try to wash my hair at least once a week or when ever my hair looks dry (which makes it once every 4- five days)

I may need to wash my hair twice a week. It is starting to get really humid here.
