Hair life cycle

For those who seem plagued with long hair from the crown and the back but short hair at the front and sides could this be that the lifecycle for hair is not the same for various parts of the head?

All of my short shedded hairs come from my temples and extreme front- can anything be done besides using MSM?

i used to think that, but i now realise that my front an side hair didnt grow as long as i liked because i manipulated those hair more. the front an side hairs were comstantly brushed into a ponytail, constantly on the outside facing the world, they recieved the most drying products, ie: hair sprays. etc, once i used low manipulative styles an less excessive force brushing an styling my hair the front an sides grew an are now almost as long as the rest of my hair.
