Hi TWesley! I see this is your first post, so...Welcome to LHCF!

No, I haven't tried NU-GRO. Hopefully someone who has will chime in.

I used Nu-Gro a few years ago.

If you are new to haircare - I would say the line is okay. If you are not new to haircare, I would say don't waste your money when you could whip up the same active ingredients yourself or buy better quality products that would do the same.

On to the individual product reviews;

The shampoo - smells sweet, is watery and does strip a bit. I can't ascertain what the ingredients are because both the conditioner and shampoo have the same ingred. listings.

The conditioner - I think the active smoothing ingredient is the Apple Pectin. It makes the hair so incredibly smooth. No apple cider vinegar does not produce the same results. This would be a great product if it were more concentrated; however, the emulsion is not good at all and it contains too much water.

The oil free spritz- I found it too drying for my relaxed hair and it was drying on my natural hair too. They have changed the formula a bit to reduce the garlic active ingredient to reduce the smell. You definitely only want that to touch the scalp but it does leave behind a odor - hard to describe.

The moisturizer - this all glycerine and water with cherry bark extract, garlic extract and some other herbals. The smell reflects this. If you are at all glycerine sensitive do not get this product.

They also have a variety of oils and pomades - but they have not kept up with their product development to create better formulas.

I didn't care for it on my hair. It didn't really seem to moisturize enough for me and definitely didn't promote growth. I didn't use it that long though just a few weeks.

For thickness I use JBCO or regular Castor Oil. I also do henna treatments but that adds color so you may not want that. Cassia might be another alternative if that's the case for you.
