Hair growth cycle issue, BC time?

Okay my hair is pretty jacked up right now and I have been going back and forth on what the issue could be. Since I've joined this board I've learned alot about hair care and have had good progress. The thing is, I've been through 2 full heads of hair since joining. So here is my background so you get an idea of my hair life.
About 13 years ago, I suffered some almost severe scalp damage in the back middle of my head. My hair still grows but the hair seems to be different there. Every 3 years since the damage my hair falls out or breaks off and I have to cut it, starting in the back middle and then around to above my ear. It doesn't seem to matter if my hair is natural or relaxed. It'll be thick and pretty and growing for 3 years and then I get a tingle in the back, then it starts itching, then all of sudden I'm in a half wig.
Sometimes I think the scalp damage threw the back of my hair into the same phase of the growth cycle and that's why it seems to fall out at such regular intervals.

Other times I think it maybe mental. Like once my hair starts getting long, I get nervous and subconsicously slack in my hair care or maybe I think since it's getting long I don't need to care in the same fashion.

I don't have thyroid problems or anemia. I can't afford a dermatologist but I might scrounge up the money for an extremely amazing, highly specialized trichologist (sp).

Has anyone had experience simliar to this or know someone that has?Any thoughts or suggestions?

So many things could affect hair growth so it's really hard to know what at any given time. Food sensitivities (different from allergies coz the reaction is delayed) could cause your hair to fall off, so could toxins/additives in food that could weaken your immunity. Systemic candidiasis which could live in people without them ever really knowing they have it may also be to blame. And if you're not eating as healthily as you can, ie avoiding processed foods, trying to eat wholesome, balanced organic foods and foods without preservatives, artificial additives, you might be depriving your hair of nutrients it could be getting by filling spaces they could take with junk. Changes to your regimen to practices that might be harmful could also be to blame.

I go through that often but I can't honestly say I do everything right and usually it is when I'm slacking in living healthily that I notice the negative results. Like I don't workout like I should. I've not been eating the wholesome breakfast I used to eat and so I binge on junk throughout the day to fill the empty gut, which I know isn't good for me. I don't always remember to take my supplements and because my diet isn't at its best, I surely can't expect my body to be nourished well and at its best...and since hair and nails are the least "important" compared to my internal organs, they suffer the most.

I don't always do everything perfect. It just seems like the hair loss is so dramatic. My most recent breakage can be attributed to having a baby and literally not combing my hair for 2.5 months. But nobody is perfect all the time and I feel like I'm the only I know that goes through this so regularly.

Awww... :bighug: You're not the only one, Sweetie, and if you just had a baby then it's normal to have a setback. Just take one day at a time. Sometimes just going back to basics helps you get things in perspective. Are you a PJ or bandwagon jumper? Sometimes we are our own biggest enemies coz we don't try something long enough before switching to something else. Or we try too many things when simplicity is all we need. Go back to days when things looked better. What was it you did then? What products always made your hair feel good? Start from that and then if growing your hair is important to you, get into the habit of remembering that every time you eat something that isn't beneficial to your body, it's taking the place of something that could be. And just know that until your body is well-nourished, your hair won't be. And most importantly, stop "watching the pot boil". Seriously, just do the right thing and trust the results will show up in due time. Trust and stop checking. When we are looking for results, we never see them. When we aren't, oh how sweet the surprise!

Congratulations on your baby! Don't let that hair rain on your parade. It'll be OK.

Thanks for the kind words. I am pretty basic with my products and I just bought my tried and trues at the bss the other day.
I was sort of getting back on track but then I got a touch up and that didn't help. So I'm going back to basics and I'm not going get a touch up for a while and then I'll get weaves come december. I think next time I have a breakage/shedding spell I'll try to get some help during the crisis. This one it may be too late because all the hair that's going to leave, has left.
