Before joining this board I wanted to challenge myself to begin to grow long, healthy and manageable hair. Now that I am a member of LHCF I have become somewhat obsessed with hair, hair care products and books about caring for hair.

  • I just bought Black Women’s Guide to Beautiful Hair
  • I have on back order Real Solutions to Real Problems
  • And I am thinking about buying two other hair care books from Amazon
(Just to get several points of view)

I have recently threw away all my old hair care products. And have started buying new ones:

Nioxin Smoothing Protectives Conditioner
Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo
Nexxus Humectress

And my list of “to gets” is extensive....:dizzy:

Are there any others?

I am obsessed. Yea I said it. And I don't mind either b/c I my hair looks better than ever. My friends think I'm crazy but when they see my hair at brastrap for graduation(07) they will be asking me for tips. I had one friend who used to be the worst, telling me that only "losers" would go to a forum like this, she saw my hair down a lil while ago (b/c it was wash day) she shut right up and has been asking me for advice since. ;)

I am obsessed too!

Before joining this board, I wasn't even hair conscious per se! LOL! I wasn't into hair products and hair care. All I used was shampoo, relaxers, and grease.

I started becoming hair conscious a few months after joining, then later, I became obsessed! :D

Hair Conscious. The reason is because hair is going to grow/shed at the rate its going to. I cant control or change that. However, I can be conscious enough so that it reaches it maximum potential and looks its healthiest through proper hair care and vitamins. I love this board and the tips given are invaluable. Thanks ladies.

LOL, that is my story too, man. *smh*

Now I think about my hair all throughout the day and dream about it at night..... I'm thinking of new things that I can do, and fantasizing about the day it is at bra-strap length. I walk around five days a week w/my hair wound into a gross, greasy, mtg bun and don't even care that folks may be looking at me like WTH?? When I do get it washed/roller set, I enjoy it down for an hour or so before it goes back into that bun, because I feel so paranoid that I might fray my ends and derail my progress somehow. When my boyfriend is in a loving, amorous mood and tries to twirl his fingers in my hair, my body just stiffens in fear, and I can't even enjoy his affectionate little play. Sensing this, he stops.... for he knows my dedication to this hair journey and as a result doesn't get too offended.... but it still makes me feel bad for making him feel bad.

Yet, I can't and won't stop these compulsive behaviors..... and my hair is on my mind all the time, throughout the day. I don't mind it though, I revel in it. I love this so much... it's fun, rewarding, and my hair has never been healthier. So yeah, I think that I've pretty much crossed the threshhold of "hair conscious" and entered the realms of the "hair obsessed." :lachen:

I'm both!

I have a (natural)TWA so that makes me conscious.
I count the number of naturals (that's crazy and obsessed)
I'm a PJ(that's conscious,crazy, and obsessed)

Somebody call Hair Anonymous on me, I need help!

Use to be hair obsessed now I'm just hair conscious. I use to try every quick hair growth remedy anyone posted now I'm eating healthy, vit, getting reg. trims and I'm very happy with my hair no matter what the length. Of course I want it to be longer, always longer. And I'm a recovering product junkie.

I'm hair obsessed and probably will be for the rest of my life! AND I am PROUD of it! :yep: :) :p
Seriously though, I love have the longest hair in the room! I love getting compliments on my hair! I love it when my hair swings and when I have that maximum volume. I love how my hair can look like I belong in a commercial! It is such a wonderful feeling.

I am so hair obsessed that I actually think the condition of my hair affects my mood. When my hair broke last summer from stretching too long, I was quite upset! When my hair comes out amazing, I feel unstoppable. :) :yep:

I am constantly on this board. I have a whole tub full of conditioner and treatments and I use MOST of them. I don't just have one or two deep conditioners that I use. :nono: I have like 6 or 7 that I alternate or mix on any given day. I do scalp massages. I meditate. I imagine myself at my goal and how hot I will look. (To have hair the same length as Vanessa Bryant ;) )

Seriously, you should see how gentle I am with my hair. The way I separate each strand with my fingers. How I barely comb it. My hair VERY IMPORTANT to me and the hairstylists know it. I will walk out of a salon with wet hair in January if they are mistreating my hair b/c I don't want one strand unnecessarily missing or broken. They won't trim unless I authorize it. They probably think I am crazy or have a fear of scissors. OH well! I don't care b/c my hair comes before some stranger's opinions. :P  Those stylists can think I am schizo for all I care so long as my hair stays long and continues to grow.

I know the importance of good hair care.

Gorgeous hair is a priceless accessory. :yep:

I voted for conscious, but I'm really somewhere inbetween. I'm more than just "conscious" but I wouldn't say I'm obsessed, per se. I prefer "on a mission." I just have goals and I know what I've gotta do to get there and I intend to do it :weird:

Obsessed!!
And I admit it.
The first thing I do most of the time I get online is come to LHCF.
I know almost all ingredients that are on a hair care bottle
I research them, read hair books, stalk fotkis, made my own, stalk beauty supply stores....Yes, I am obsessed, I say.....AND I LOOOOOVE    IT!!!!

:lachen: Okay, i looooved this rant and i agree w/every single word. PREACH, sista. :D

I consider myself hair conscious. I'm just enjoying the journey no matter where it takes me. Its rather fun actually. I'm more obsessed with learning different things than actually being obsessed by those things.

-A

Little of both.

I was definately more obsessed when I went natural. Probably because it was a 2 for 1. Transforming my dead jacked up hair and seeing my fabulous natural hair for the first time in...ever. Alas several years and a texturizer later, I've mellowed a bit. But mixing concoctions, going to Sally's for the fun of it, taking pictures, not using heat, not wanting my hair to brush my neck or shoulders, putting it in a ponytail in the car so I don't 'lean' on it, checking each strand individually for split ends, reading product labels, $60 box relaxers, yeah I'd say I was still pretty conscious.

I been obsessed with my hair since my mama use to wash and curl my hair on Saturdays for church on Sundays. The days of swinging my head full of braids and beads. Experimenting with all those crazy styles and cuts in highschool to the Angela Davis natural in college. I love to flip through old pictures and see the transformation.

My hair makes the absolute statement about who I am. It has been a lovely journey and as I step into womanhood my crown and glory lets you know just how precious this child of God really is...

I'm merely hair conscious. Funny, I used to be obsessed way back when my hair was shorter (shoulder length). Now that it's long, I don't give it a whole lot of thought.

Welcome Nic Cali!

Before the hair boards and LHCF, I was totally hair unconscious. :sleep8:

I started out being obsessed since I was learning and trying a lot of new techniques in order to develop a regimen. Everything was new to me! :Flahsssss

Now I'm pretty much hair conscious although once in a while, some information, thread, post or hair pic will (briefly) trigger my obsession. :drunk:

My haircare journey has been a joyful experience and I feel I will always love learning new haircare tips and sharing what I know with others. :yep:

When I joined this forum, I would say hair conscious. But now, I'm just obsessed  and that's alright with me!

I am extremely cautious about what I do to my hair now.

When I first came to LHCF I was conscious but now the more i've learned about hair it has become an obsession and I am absolutely proud of that!!!! :D You have to understand I went from someone who did not know how to do anything with my hair in terms of styling it to now all the protective styling I have learned form LHCF. Also I can now rollerset in 1/2 hr (u don't wanna know how long it took me before) and the rollers actually stay in my head now, before they would all fall right out of my head I guess I wasn't clipping them right:lol:

So yes i'm so glad I foud LHCF I can now style my hair with variety and I love it love it love it!!!!!!! Obsession is the name of my game and I carry it with pride:D

At this point, I have to say I'm obsessed. Why else would I be on the site everyday when I'm supposed to be working!?

Seriously, I was going through a period of depression due to some major life changes (marriage, relocation, new job, miscarriage, etc, etc,) and my hair was starting to piss me off. Not only was I struggling to take care of it myself in my new environment, but my new envrionment was wreaking havoc on my hair: cold air, dry heat, hard water, etc. So my saving grace was taking better care of my hair, which not only made me look better, but I started to feel better about myself.

I've considered this my support group. (Yes, I know that's sad!) Next, we'll need a forum for those of us who are obsessed with our hair...
