Hair concern...

This morning was picture day for my kindergartener. So I dressed her in this cute black turtleneck and plaid black and white overall dress. I did her hair in a wash'n go afro with some of the front combed to the side secured by a barrette. I thought she looked absolutely beautiful :love3:. I took her to her dad and he said she looked pretty. Privately he said her hair looked kind of funny so I adjusted it.

When we got out of the car at school I started thinking maybe this is too much for her right now meaning the big beautiful afro. As we walked into the school building the teacher assistant greeted her with this look on her face  because her hair was nice size afro. I mean it wasn't huge but it wasn't flat and straight like the teacher assistant hair.

I got mad at the look and she quickly straightened it up. She is the teacher and she sets the tone so I wanted to let her know that her response was unacceptable. I had a very serious face on I probably looked angry.

I am worried that I may have set her up for ridicule today by others. I wish I could have taken a picture. I think I have something similar, let me look.

let us know how her picture day went. you know children can be the cruelest :nono: and make sure if she complains to you about being made fun of , please take it up with the teacher. there have been so many times that i can remember telling my fam about certain situations and them just laughing it off :ohwell:

awwww!!it sounds like a cute hairdo for a child, but kids can be mean for no reason at all.I hope everything turns out okay for her today!!I'd like to see a pic.

Thanks for responding Mzhotniz86, I felt really bad this morning.

When I picked her up she was really happy and told me that the photographer and his assistant or "camera people" kept telling her how gorgeous she looked. I was just happy no one said anything negative. I was prepared to give that teacher a lesson in diversity but all is well for now.

Girl, I feel you on the your daughters hair. My daughter is in kindergarten too and the hair thang ain't no joke.

thats really good :) im glad everything went ok , cause chile ,i can tell you some stories about my picture days lol

Your daughter's hair is beautiful!!! It is so pretty!!! I am trying the same thing out on my daughter's hair and she loves it but others have told her she looks roughie(sp??) but I am like KK you are beautiful and so she will say back to them my momma said I am beautiful  she is 2

I don't know why you were worried. Her hair is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! Obviously the teacher assistant has a problem. I shouldn't ask, but I must--was she AA?

ETA: If you notice, many of the child models you see that are AA or biracial wear their hair that way in the magazines and catalogs.:yep:

I used to work in modeling agencies
and top clients prefer kid models with natural
hair and not press and curls/relaxers...
u might have a little models on your hands...
your daughters are fabulous!!!
... and their hair is too!!!

Aww!! She's so cute!!! You're better than me, I would have done more than look at that teacher!!! That pic is going to come out great and she'll love it!

Picture perfect and I don't think that the fro is too much. I love to see a child wearing their natural hair.
Absolutely beautiful!

I want to add that my kindergartener wore her hair like that once when I took down her braids and didn't have time to wash yet, and I loved it. I wish she could wear it more often but neither of us is down for the marathon detangling. Picture day is the perfect opportunity.

Her hair is so pretty.

I wonder is the teacher was looking at her in envy. Well that is in search of a better word, but maybe she did not mean it in a mean way - she may have been jealous of your baby's beautiful hair.

I love your daughters' hair, BEAUTIFUL! You have inspired me to let my baby wear her fro sometime real soon, she's in 2nd grade.
