So after being here for a few months I can say my hair is finally getting back to its healthy state after 6yrs of damage. MY edges are back my nape grew about 3in since feb. which is a miracle!!!

Im so happy with my progress and dont want to mess it up.. but im so tired of having natural jet black hair.. Its so dull on me. I want to add a little color maybe highlights but I dont want to jepordize the health of my hair. Is there a color out there that is kinda safe. (i understand its a chemical procedure and will alter the hair) but I just need a lttle sum'nsum'n

thanks

Instead of coloring for change try a new hair style? Adding color require chemicals and will alter your hair texture. Rinse and semi-perm will not really lift the color. :bdance:

I agree with Simone; since your hair is naturally very dark, to make it any color that is lighter than that WILL require chemicals. Like Simone said, you can always try a different style to change it up, but IF, *IF* you are set on lightening your hair with highlights there are ways...

Obviously, I would not recommend you do it yourself until you've had it PROFESSIONALLY done before, and watched closely and are very educated in the basics and rules of lightening your hair. There are brands out there that are LESS harmful than others, but like I said, regardless, they have chemicals so they are harmful anyway you look at it.

Look into these brands for good coloring products/services: Redken (LOVE), Matrix, Aveda--cant buy the color, you'll have to go to an Aveda salon, but theyre color is more 'natural' (less chemicals) than others out there.

I especially wanna emphasize that you look up and read up on threads that are info-heavy as to how to maintain the health of your hair when it is colored as well as keep the color vibrant and updated. It's definitely possible to have healthy, colored hair.

HTH!

Since you are a natural jet black, the only way you would get a noticable change would be to lift 1 or 2 levels.

If you still desire a color change, another option you can look at is getting partial highlights, but have the colorist use developer only, no bleach. This will lift the color enough that you can get some sort of change of tint to your overall look.
