Okay so it has been years since I have dyed my hair. I am itching to do something different to my hair. I really want some red on top. More like a red/brown. Well anyways I am trying to use the cheapest but safest way possible. Are there any box brands I could use? Sally Brands? What do you all suggest?

For my Stripe (The first time I dyed it, NOT the color in my Avatar:grin:), I used Textures and Tones by Clairol in Flaming Desire

I got it from CVS for about 6 dollars. I thought it did a good job, and was pretty true to the color swatch on the back. It was fool proof, and I didn't experience any breakage so far.

Good luck!

You have one stripe? How neat! yes I just want to dye a front triangle and leave the rest my natural color I think that would be so hot!

I also recommend Textures & Tones :yep:. I used it to dye my hair blonde (I used Lightest Blonde) and it came out true to the box color. Even on my relaxed hair, I didn't have much breakage. If you want a red color, get Flaming Desire like JussaLady suggested. Also, it isn't expensive (around $5-$6) and can be found at most drugstores and BSS. I would also avoid Dark and Lovely colors...they dried my hair out :nono:.

I too use Texture & Tones by Clairol in Cherrywood it is a reddish brown and I have been using it faithfully every 8 weeks since last summer, no breakage for me. I love that stuff and it's only $4.72 at Wal Mart :)

i second (well 4th lol) clairol textures and tones...i used the bronze color to lighten my hair before putting a rinse over it and even though i left it on for like double the recommended time i didnt have any damage...

If you want cheap and effective, I like the new foam at home colouring systems. I usually need 3 boxes of dye to colour but the foam spreads more easily so I only used 1. Last time I used John Frieda precision foam colour.
Right now Target has a coupon for $5 off.

I saw this color and was totally digging it. Maybe the cherrywood will give me the same affect

I like picking out custom colors at Sally's...you can control the vol developer and I think most box dyes marketed towards us have a vol of 30 which could lead to dry hair, but haircolor is drying anyway...:yep:

I *LOVE* color threads like this, lol. I dont have all over color, just DIY highlights that I put a rinse over. I think I'll refresh the color this weekend or look for a new one (because the pictures here are inspiring me! =D )

Dyed my hair today. A bit brighter than expected and of course it's uneven. oh well. I dig it!

Don't mean to hijack ur thread, but I have a quick question...

So I used clairol professionals from Sally's to dye my hair this weekend for ombre highlights, but it didn't come out as light as I wanted.....Is it safe to re-dye with Clairol's textures and tones (ammonia free) or is that a recipe for breakage??

Most likely it won't take...my stylist dyed my hair last February (with Clairol) and while I loved it it wasn't the color(s) I asked for, so I picked up a box of Textures and Tones. I called the hotline to make sure I wasn't going to do anything crazy, and the operator told me the color wasn't going to take over the other dye and would most likely damage my hair.
