Hello ladies...looking for some advice on what products to use to color hair. My hair type if 4a, not sure what to use that is safe and will keep my hair healthy. Also if you do have color do you take any extra measures to ensure your hair remains healthy. I did color years ago and I had a shedding problem. Just curious. Thanks.

Since you already had some problems with color perhaps you can try something milder such as a demi or rinse. A rinse is good because there is no amonia and no peroxide and it rinses out slowly. The demi permanent is a good choice if you want something a little more long lasting and don't mind the small amount of peroxide.

Thank you kari...I did do a rinse before and it was fine on my hair...I've never tried the demi but I'm open to trying new things...just don't want to take my hair out in the process. lol

Thanks for the advice

I use Clairol Natural Instincts. It's a gentle, semi-permanent dye and the conditioner that comes in the box is wonderful! :)

I usually mix the conditioner in the box with another deep conditioner and leave it in my hair for about an hour to ensure that my hair stays healthy and less damaged from the dye. HTH

Ditto to all of the above. As far as drugstore brands go I had success with softsheen Hi Rez collection but Clariol Textures and Tones is one of the best. I have also used the adore color rinses and jazzings. Look into the colorshowers ones with olive oil on roundbrushhair.com.
