Where is the best place to order from? Which is better for the hair refined or unfined

? Lastly, any recs would be awesome and are so greatly appreciated

I would definitely get unrefined butters because they are purer. Alot of folks order from the site From Nature With Love (www.fnwl.com) and some other sites. I'll see if I can find some of them. I generally purchase my butters in person from the local health food store or Whole Foods.

Are you planning to make your own hair butters?

Try fromnaturewithlove.com. I'm not sure about refined or unrefined. Check with Irresistible...

[/ QUOTE ] unrefined is always best , cause its not processed with chemicals and not bleached etc. and the original properties are left in tact....there are some refined that are ok, if its not processed or exctracted or cleaned with chemicals....like fnwl's refined shea butter ...but in most instances unrefined is best

thanks patience and simplyhair!!!

patience I would love to make my own hair butters but sadly do not know how. the same goes with the homemade spritzs that I read about--I would love to know how!!!

Girl, you play at it. I posted some recipes in CaramelHonee's thead about her daughter. If you want, I can find the thread and post them here.

Here are some:
Using an 8oz. spray bottle:
20 drops of Rosemary essential oil
~4 capsules of Vitamin E
1 tablespoon Olive oil
Fill rest of bottle almost to the top with water
Shake before use and spritz

Another combo that I've used:
~1 Tb. spoon olive oil
~1tsp. Jojoba oil
5 capsules Vit. E
2 Tb. Suave Coconut conditioner
Fill rest of bottle with water
Shake well before each use

Another one:
10 drops Rosemary Essential oil
25 drops Sweet Orange Essential oil
4 capsules of Vit. E
~1Tb. olive oil
~1 Tb. conditioner of your choice (I like Suave)
Fill rest with water
Shake well before each use...

Using an 8oz spray bottle:
15 drops of Sweet Orange essential oil
1 TB olive oil
1 tsp. Vit. E
1 tsp. Jojoba oil
1 Tb. of conditioner (I like Suave Naturals Coconut)
Shake well before each use

Hair/body butter...
Using approx. an 8 oz. container:
Equal parts melted Coconut Oil, Unrefined shea butter and 1/2 stick of cocoa butter (the amount is up to you...just don't go above half)
~1 tsp. Jojoba oil
~1 Tb. Vitamin E
~1 Tb. Honey
15 drops Lavender EO
20 drops Rosemary Eo
25 drops Sweet Orange Eo
The rest will be Olive Oil

Using a double boiler (a small boiler inside of a large boiler that's filled with water), melt and blend all of the ingredients using a wooden spatular or spoon. When completely mixed, pour into your container. Fill the rest of the container with Olive oil. Put in the refridgerator or freezer and allow it to cool and solidify. When ready to use, take out, let sit for about 5-10 minutes depending on climate and use. If a room is too warm, it will become very liquidy (is that a word). Be careful not to use too much. It's very concentrated.

**Note: You may use the essential oils of your choice. I use these because they are all that I have at the moment. Be sure that you DO use the Rosemary oil. It's supposed to be good for hair growth and the honey works as a humectant**

You know, I got my FNWL catalog and it said they can do discounts for groups (even e-groups) but the leader of the group has to contact them to arrange it. Do you think there are enough of us here buying the stuff to get the discount?

I think definitely, but how would payment and shipping work since we're all over the place?

Imagine you just have some kind of code that you enter which gives you your discount. It's my understanding that other than that, it works just the same.

Wow that would be cool. I would be willing to order then.

...I've been wanting to order some avocado butter, carrot oil and aloe vera oil for a while now. This would be the perfect opportunity.

How many people do we need to order?

u would simply type in a code for the 5% discount. the same is being done for NP members. so it will just be a discount off of your purchase.

What does refined and unrefined mean?

The ORS just has Shea Butter in it. The pure is nothing but Shea Butter.

Here are the ingredients for the ORS:

Ingredients
Purified Water , Cyclomethicone , Dimethicone Copolyol , Natural Glycerin , Methyl Gluceth-30 , Dimethiconol , African Shea Butter , Phenyl Trimethicone , Sodium Chloride , Polysorbate-20 , Carrot Oil , Fragrance , Propylene Glycol , Diazolidinyl Urea , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , Quaternium-15

Thank you. I have the ORS Shea Butter. So does the pure shea butter and the ors shea butter basically achieve the same hair purpose or is one better than the other? (Sorry for all these questions

I used to order from FNWL or from Whole foods and any other place I could find it. Then Jade21 recommended Nature's Wild Child... it is so creamy and I was in love.

This is definitley the best I ever used.
This is where I ordered from. Go down to the butters...the name of it is African Natural and it is unrefined. Nature's Wildchild

u would basically have to try and answer for yourself. but in MY dealings..shea butter is much better and can be used for a variety of things. (skin and hair)

a lot of companies today are trying to cash in on the "shea butter" craze (if you will) claiming products are shea butter..etc..when they BARELY have it in there. if you want shea butter..get the shea butter. not something that claims to have shea butter in it. by the time they add in all that other stuff..i am almost sure the shea butter has been reduced down to something next to nothing.

Patience - how much do you pay for the butters you purchase at Whole Foods? Wondering if it makes better sense to buy at a store rather than online. Also, what kind of butters have you found at Whole Foods?

To be perfectly honest, I just used it because I liked the results that I got with it and it was great for soothing my scalp. I didn't learn about the perservative effects of it until later.

The hair butters that I use, I make myself. I've seen shea but I didn't get any at the time. Memory serving me correctly, it was like $12 for about a 16oz. jar I think.

I usually get my shea butter unrefined from a health food store near my mom. I bought some last summer for about $14 but I got about a pound and a half.

I'll double check Whole Foods and let you know.
