Growing Long Hair WITHOUT spending a lot of money

A previous post made me ask the question...who, besides myself is growing their hair WITHOUT spending a lot of money.

(NOTE: I am not including my visits to the salon...which is usually every 3 months unless something "special" pops up)

On the average, My products total less than $50 (and these products last me a few months). This is what I use and the average price...

1. Creme of Nature Conditioning Shampoo - $5.00
2. Kera Care Reconstrouctor - $15.00
3. Big Tub of Vaseline - $3.00
4. Bottle of Glycerin - $4.00
5. 2 bottles of Sauve Conditioner - $3.00
6. 1 bottle of Pantene Sleek and Smooth - $6.00
6. Protein Conditioner (last time is was Nexxus HAIR) $8.00

That's about it. Sure it varies from time to time, but I never find myself spending a bundle. And remember, these items usually last me a while!

The funny thing here is that I WANT to spend more on my hair, but have actually found a system that works for me... (keeping in mind that simplicity and consistency is the key) So, how many people here have found that it doesn't take a lot of money to grow your hair long?

Since I've started to take care of my hair (about 6 weeks ago), I've only purchased Infusium 23 and Scurl and Hummectress.

I use:
Nexxus Therape: BIG BOTTLE for 18*
Nexxus Keraphix: 10*
Nexxus Hummectress: 18
Infusium: 3
Scurl: 3
Pantene: 6
VO5 Hot Oil Treatments: 5
Fantasia Leave In: 4.70*
and Occasionally Profectiv: 5 each

It looks like a lot, but it's really only one shampoo, three conditioners (one of which is for condition only washes, one of which is for protein, and the other for moisture), two leave ins that I will alternate. One product for moisture, and Two products that I mix to protect my ends.

The things with the * are things that my mom bought for me before she left so Idk how much they cost. The only things I plan to add to my round up are coconut oil and jajoba oil.

I am not a PJ and I don't spend a lot of money on my hair. My biggest expenses are going for a relaxer ($50-$60) and this happens every 3-4 months...and my keracare humecto ($17 for 16 ounces). All of my other products (mostly profectiv stuff) cost like $5 or less and I use about 6 of them.

I was just trying them out though and will not be using the mega growth again when it is used up (too thick) but the root health, long and healthy and scalp stimulating thingie are keepers for me.

I did go on a spree the other day....bought a shower comb ($1.99) and a polisher ($3)..I am loving both of these so they justified the cost for me.

oh...I own 2 brushes (boar bristle and paddle) and 3 seamless combs (widetooth showercomb, meduim for styling and rattail for setting hair) I threw out the ones I used to use..these are the best.

Less is more!

that's all i use. i'm not sure about all the prizes but if they're different then only about 30 cents or something like that.
it really does not take a lot of money to grow your hair long. you just have to find the products that work for your hair.

nay

OK.. Now you're just making me feel bad

I really am trying to streamline my products but it's been alot of trial and error. Hopefully (soon) I'll get it down....You've inspired me

I was looking at your list and I hope to one day finally find stuff that I really like and stick to it. Maybe I am dreaming but at least it's something to aim for.

I was just thinking last night that its probably in my best interest to get a seamless rat tail for rollersetting. Where did you get yours?

Well, 3 and a half years into my natural growth challenge and I have finally gotten a regimen down that I can live with and that's fairly cheap. But it took a lot of money to get here. I have gotten myself down to (I'm not going to list the prices cause it'll shock you all..things aren't cheap here..
laugh.gif
...I shouldn't laugh it hurts the pocketbook
smirk.gif
). Well here's my list, not counting the stash I have to use up:
2 moisturizing conditoners...humecto and MillCreek's biotin
2 protein conditioners...Affirm 5 in 1 and GPB
1 profectiv anti-thinning circulation creme
1 spray...Luster's scurl
1 oil (store bought)...kemi oyl
2 combs
1 Leave-in conditioner...Aussie Slip
Application of natural henna every 3 months
Various oils...to create proven oil mixture

I have to incorporate the Elasta products I have into this list....hmmmm

Not bad compared to my list before of 5 shampoos, 10 or so conditioners, etc. You get the idea.
grin.gif
Keeping it simple is easier on the pocket books and easier to maintain.
grin.gif

You know I'm going to print and save this list to remind myself not to spend anymore..hmmm.

I am a college student and I don't have a lot to spend, but I do treat myself every now and then. My latest buys have been,

Pantene S&S and R&N conditioners 2 for $5
Extra virgin olive oil $3
Motions CPR cond. $6
Elasta QP Intense and Remoisturizer $2.99 each.

The only thing that keeps me from buying anymore products is that I live in the South and I can't find any of the Dominican conditioners or any Mizani products.

!! I'm soooo proud of myself for keepin' it cheap, yet getting beautiful results
smile.gif
!

Let me start off by saying....if the product costs more than $6, I don't buy it!!! Unless of course it's a steal of a deal! I apply my own relaxers, trims, everything! No one, besides my mom, has touched my hair in 13 yrs!!!

Motions shampoos, conditioners, leave in....all under $5
(I bought a big tub of conditioner, 80 oz (5lbs)....$16.99, it was equivalent to getting an extra bottle of conditioner free, couldn't pass that up!!!)
Creme of Nature shampoos...........$2.99, 12 oz
Hot 6 Oil....$4.39 for 8 oz
Suave Coconut.....$ .99 for 22 fl oz
Suave Clarifying....$ .69 for 22 fl oz
Miss Cool............$1.99 for 8 fl oz
Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 5 lbs.....$4.99 (wholesale club)
Magnetic rollers....$1.00 for 8
Luster's S-Curl......$4.99 for 8 oz
accessories..........$1.29 & under
plus, some others products, well under 6 bucks

I wash once weekly, so I gain a long shelf life on products.

Oh, vitamins...have not taken yet...
One a Day & Centrum, both given to me by my mom!
GNC Ultra Nourishair........Mom bought for me!
PP Biotin, 1000 mcg, 300 tabs, $3.95 (I believe w/coupon)

I pride myself on keeping my hair healthy (& looking good) on a deal of a budget

Dudley's Delux Shampoo
PCA Moisture Retainer

S-Curl
Hennalucent
Henna

look.gif
. I haven't had to buy anything is a long time. When I do, it's normally one item.

Hey Daviine....I know....as I PJ I would be pathetic. I am failthful to my products and only "cheat" occasionally (like once or twice a year) and buy something new.

laugh.gif

I got my comb at http://www.hairsense.com

Fast delivery...great combs.

95% of the products I buy cost under $5. I just buy a lot of products that cost under $5...

Does that count?

I know, I know...

Call me a hair product shop-o-holic... I know I'm not too far gone because I haven't bought the Kerastase conditioner I want to try. I just can't bring myself to spend $20-$30 for 5 oz. of conditioner...

I guess I should invest in some seamless combs. Perhaps that is where my mystery split ends came from. That combined with the fact that I love to comb my hair.
blush.gif

Daviine...when you went to the hair "expert" did he blow dry your hair AFTER he trimmed it? If he did that could be the cause of your splits. I know my hairdresser does this and I hate it and it always produces splits so I think I am going to find a new salon.

lee,

i decided to transition. this time for real though. my goal was to wait until june to get my next relaxer, my last one was in december. but now i won't get them anymore and just see how it will work. i won't have to cut my hair off either. cause i have about 3 or 4 new inches of growth and i'm fine. the structure is not THAT different. it's almost the same. thanks for asking
smirk.gif
.

i wonder how long it will take for me to reach my final goal......
scratchchin.gif
...

nay.

LMAO @ the hair "expert".....

No---he rollerset it afterwards........

I told you man--these are mystery split ends!
sekret.gif

Peachtree:

Walmart eh?

laugh.gif

Nay:

I'm sure your natural hair will be as beautiful as your relaxed hair is. And the textures are similar so you're very lucky. You'll get to keep the length while you transition. WTG!
clap.gif

thanks faith, that was sweet.
but i'm getting more and more impatient with reaching my goal.........

This is my thread!

Anyway, this is my hair stuff.

1) Optimum Care No-Lye relaxer $7.00
2) V05 shampoo $1.00
3) LeKair conditioner $2.50
4) any kind of grease that smells good $3.00
---------------------------------------------- =
CHING! CHING! $13.50

I have 4a hair that reaches the bottom of my bra strap!
smile.gif

Latley I've been trying new things...but come back to the following. These are the only items I restock.
Elucence Moisture Balancing and shampoo
Pantene Pro-V Smooth and Sleek
Paul Mitchell Supercharged
Herbal Essence Conditioning Balm
Carol's Daughter Healthy Hair Butter
I buy shea butter twice a year to which I add oils (except for jojoba) I brought these oils almost 2 years ago.

So once I found my 'nitch'...it got less expensive.

Oh yea...how could I forget...Lottabody Creme for wrapping and setting!
