I was wondering if there was anyone this regimen has not worked for…I mean, I do understand the need to moisturize, but to put oil on everyday (all over) does not work for me. Therefore, I was hoping some ladies who take a different approach to maintaining moisture would chime in.

I have sealed my ends while washing, but I try not to apply to much product, as I like light fluffy hair. However, my hair has been feeling a little dry so I would like feedback.

I use Mizani or Keracare products. I use the castor oil on my ends and edges after a wash and I follow-up with Mizani’s Rose H2o when dry, but I put a light amount on.

I know what you mean ... have you ever used argan oil? I mean pure argan, not Moroccan oil or Sally's one n only (prob also good products, but I've never used them so IDK). I find that it works well to seal AND to moisturize.
I also found that overnight deep conditioning is pretty amazing :) Have you tried that?

I use oils pretty much 5 to 6 days a week and my hair is not greazy.

The difference for me is that I mix the oils in not put it on top.
The traditional method of moisturizing and sealing did not work for me because of the greaze factor.

Mixing my oils in with my moisturizer and moisturizing mix works best for me.

moisturizer: Lustrasilk mixed with wheat germ oil and extra virgin olive oil

moisturizing mix/spray: spray bottle filled with water, Lustrasilk, wheat germ oil and extra virgin olive oil

I tend to use Cantu Shea butter leave in just after I wash, and seal with coconut oil. During the week I may spray it with water or aloe vera spray, and it causes less greasiness/buildup for me.

If your hair feels greasy - cut back. I only use oil 2-3 times/week and I don't use a lot.

My hair used to feel greasy at the beginning of my HHJ, but then I realized I was being very heavy-handed with the application. Is it possible you may be too?

Also, castor oil is a VERY thick oil. My hair is naturally very dry and drinks up moisture, so I only use a conservative amount of castor oil to seal. You may want to try a lighter oil like jojoba or even coconut oil and see if this makes a difference.

I love gymnasts suggestion about mixing your oil/sealant into your moisturizer. Makes perfect sense and you should notice a change pretty immediately.

No, I have never used either method, but I will def try the overnight conditioning until I find argan...thanks for responding truly appreciated!

Yes, I am going to try this def. I don't think I am heavy handed, but my hair is fine so I can't afford all the product build-up. So, even when I apply a small amount per day it can be too much. I am going to try to conditioner overnight, plus mixing different oils to see how that works out.

:giggle: OP, welcome to my world. Why do you think I went bare for so long and only just baggied? Love the feeling of clean non-greasy hair that is moisturized from within. Even nowadays when I'm trying to take better care of my ends by moisturizing them, I'm more likely to be found with bare hair than with hair with S Curl on ends. (And yes, I only put it on ends and only once after a wash.)

When I baggy my full head, the S Curl does get to the rest of my hair and I start to crave a wash ASAP. Once I wash it, I tend to spend more time baggying with nothing on, wearing headwraps and hats, than wearing it down with ends moisturized...just so I can avoid that greasy feeling.

I could never do the daily moisturizing. Baggying helps my moisture last for days so I don't have to.

Lotioncrafter.com sells it And there's a LHCF code you can use at checkout for a discount. Check the discount thread.. I forget what it is .. but I think it's 5 or 10%
Or you can check sephora for josie maran's argan oil, but it's $15 for .05 oz =/
It's going to be pricey no matter where you get it, but I prefer lotioncrafter

I don't use oil at all! Oil, or grease just sits on my hair. I use East African Shea Butter if I want extra moisture.

what works for lovegymnasts works for me as well: moisturizing with a mix of conditioner (a rich one without glycerin) + penetrating oil (olive or coconut)+ ceramide or light oil (wheat germ or sunflower or grapeseed) daily. I lightly wet my sections as well before doing so. sometimes I wear a plastic cap: for half an hour to overnight.

this is the only thing that keeps my hair almost like freshly deep conditioned all the time.

I love castor oil on my head...(I say it enough). HOWEVER, I only add it at night to damp hair so that it "soaks" in. On the off chance that I need a little shine or moisturizing in the AM, I use Aveda Brilliant Universal Creme with a 1/4 pump of castor oil and 100% pure argan oil, emulsify in my hand first then apply to hair. It soaks in immediately without the greasy, oil slick feeling.

Also, you can imitate that same effect with castor oil which is a water soluable oil. Use dampen your hands first with water, then add a dab of castor oil, emulsify (rub hands together) then apply to hair. That should thin it out enough to lightly coat your hair without leaving an oil slick. Just try not to be heavy handed as a little goes a long way. I put my JBCO in pump bottles so that I can control the amount I need with the pump.

This sums up exactly how I feel. Funny, I was thinking of this samething on my morning train ride . As a person w/ relaxed hair, I've never liked the feel of product on my hair ends. I deep condition thoroughly once a week and use a nice creamy leave in. That leaves my hair very soft and pliable b/c I can feel that 'moisture' in my hair next wash. I like to use creamy moisturizers on my edges and I do so pretty much daily particularly when my new growth comes in. But I don't like the feel of anything on my hair ends after I wash it. I think if I were natural, I'd def moisturize much more. I could just picture my thick, soft, fluffy hair, and add a nice creamy moisturizer as I twist my hair  ... ok... back to reality :look:

That's it! I'm gonna have to get some S Curl. Every time I hear you talk about it, I wanna run to the store!

This is what I do. I just can't understand "oil" moisturizers. It just sits on my hair and makes it really rough and crispy. I am more for the creamy stuff. I have tried every kind of oil and none of them worked for me.

Ditto on using the castor oil on wet and/or damp hair. :yep: Even if/when you do this, try to be light handed because castor oil is VERY heavy.

And ditto on mixing oils with your leave ins. :yep: I like to whip mine into HELTR & water and slap it on.

you can try using penetrating oils avocado, coconut, olive. Castor and Olive oil is pretty heavy for me though and I don't even have fine hair. Or even try deep conditioning more so you won't have to moisturize so often.

I use a dime sized amount of oil on my hair daily.

First I moisturize with Nuetrogena Leave In conditioner - a dime sized amount, concentrating on my ends. Then I seal with Perfect Results - Cherry Almond Oil or Jojoba Oil.

Sometimes I moisturize with B&B Oil Moisturizer and then seal with oil, concentrating on the ends.

If you are using too much product, it will weigh down your hair. My hair is still shaky if I was Sunday to Sunday. I hope this helps someone.

Yes, my hair gets all dead and it does not look good at all. I can't. :nono:

I think after washing it's ok to use oil on your whole head but then when moisturizing after that first application you only need oil on the ends. that's what helps me to avoid greasiness and build up

HTH

It's hard for me because my hair doesn't like any type of oils, grease or glycerin. It just sits on top of my hair and makes it feel dry and crispy.
