I purchased some mtg yesterday after reading so many good reports about it, but I was scared to use it because it was made for horses. So I called the company that manufactured it to ask if it was okay for human to use it on the hair. They told me that they had it analyze and there was nothing it to harm human. It was perfectly safe and that they had gotten some many phone call over the past year of how well it was helping people's hair that they are coming out with a product just for our hair. It will be basically the same product but it will not the same smell. Yes folks it will smell better. Isn't that great. I can't wait. They said it will be here real soon.:D

:eek: Now you know when they start making big bucks off the new formula they'd better send a donation to LHCF for making it possible

Well look at you! Thanks for letting us know. I just ordered some last week and it is already at the post office for pick up. Can't wait to use it...will use a few of the many tips from some of the veterans on this site to minimize the smell.

Thanks again!

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy:yay: :yay: :yay: Now I'll get to use it. I couldn't order it before because my husband is so sensitive about smells (he likes sweet smells :p ) that I was scurred to order it, but now...I will. Can't wait until it comes out!

Yes, this was discussed on this board before. I tried to search and bump the thread for you but I couldn't find it. Someone had actually posted a letter from the owner at Shapleys about the usage on humans. If you do a search, you may be able to find it but they've been talking about the new product for a while but have yet to come out with it.

I haven't had the courage to purchase MTG.

1. Because I can't get over that fact that it is a product made for horse.
2. Because of how bad some of these threads have mentioned that smell is. I have a very bad/poor gag reflex when I come to strong stinky smells.

But a new product made for humans, and with a better smell sounds lovely:love:

Well, here is my original post....wonder what happened....:(

Oh, duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, now I get it! This is a double thread and I posted in one and then checked the other and saw different posts and not my original post and wondered what happened to it. duh.........:look:

I'm sorry for posting twice, my computer was acting crazy on me. So is it true that they have been saying that their new product will be out soon. I was getting my hopes up.

I got my from feed store. The lady at shapley's told me that it has been doing miracles for all kinds of people. She told me of one incident where a lady who had chemo (she was bald) her hair would not grow back, so she started to use mtg and her grew back full and quick. I hope they come out with the new soon, the only thing difference with the new one(from what she told me) is they are going to add fragance to it.

Cool,

I have to admit, I was slightly concerend about that also, I just ordered mine, and am waiting for it to be delivered.:) I can't wait to use it, and report the results. My goal is to be slightly pass SL for my cousin's wedding in July 07

Not trying to persuade you, but the original formual WAS made for humans, but the founder found out there was a larger animal market. And as far as the smell, I thought it would be worse, but it's basically as bad as sulpher 8 IMO. I know different folks can't even take sulpher 8, but IMO it doesn't smell as bad as people make it out to be. It's certainly not a pleasant or floral smell, but if I put it on my scalp at night, by the time I wake in the AM I can barely smell the stuff.

ETA: The history of Shapley's MTG

It began in 1938 with a barber named Henry E. Shapley in Waterloo, Iowa, who formulated a product for dandruff and psoriasis. An avid horse lover, he soon discovered the same great results on his horses as he did with his customers. This became Shapley’s first product, known then and now as Original M-T-G (Mane-Tail-Groom).
From these humble beginnings, Shapley’s has grown into an organization providing an extensive line of quality equine grooming products, including our revolutionary Show Touch Up. Passed down through the generations, Shapley’s has now become a staple in barns world wide!

Our philosophy at Shapley’s is the Customer comes first...both human and equine! In maintaining the tradition of innovation driven by customer need, we encourage and solicit all comments and suggestions.

A sincere thank you to our customers who have supported us throughout the years, and an enthusiastic welcome to our new customers!

Thanks for the post. I posted on the other thread too not realizing there were doubles.

I used to use MTG in the 80s and 90s. I just can't get with using it now

I hope they don't change the formula. The sulfur in it is what makes it effective and that's why the smell is so strong. I'll still be using the original formula.

Mee too girl... It doesn't smell all that bad to me. It's not pleasant, but it's not the grossest thing I've ever smelled and the smell is gone when I wake in the AM after adding it at night.

You did what? Ok.. I'm going to paste a post I made in the "MTG Controversy" thread:

By the way, I'd like to add that (most likely) because of this "controversy" and people e-mailing and calling the company, the price has risen.. AGAIN. I know for certain that when I first ordered directly from Shapley's, the price was $16.95 plus shipping. I visited the site yesterday and it is now $19.95. According to some other threads I've read, the price used to be cheaper than the $16.95 I paid.

I found another site where I believe I paid $14.95 plus shipping but I don't see how they'll be able to offer that price for long if the company itself has raised theirs.. maybe not for distributors but I don't know.

Moral of the story.. if you want to use it, use it but is it really necessary to contact the company and tell them about how much your human hair has grown as a result of using their product? Or if you want to know all of the ingredients in the product.. why mention that you want to use it on your own hair? If you're that worried about it, don't use it.

Another concern of mine is that they'll change the formula or make a new one. I like my MTG just the way it is. I don't want it to get all humanized like the Mane 'n' Tail products you see in the stores now.

This wasn't meant as a mean-spirited rant but I don't want to be paying sky-high prices for something that I know (and many other women know) works. And no, $19.95 a pop isn't sky-high but who knows what they'll raise the prices to if sales keep increasing. Personally, I made sure to stock up.

So please, stop contacting the company!

I wish I would have met you guys a longtime ago, after reading some of you'll posts it has help me out so much. One reason why I'm so concern about my hair growth is, I have tried perms for 6 years now. Everytime i get a good length it breaks off. This time it really broke bad, my hair broke down to my new growth in some places. So I have decided to go natural. I'm having a hard time learning to manage it. I don't know if I'm 4a or 4b, all I know is my natural hair makes little O's. So you can imagine what a time I have managing it. I hope this MTG helps me out. Thanks to everyone who has given me some advice. Sorry for my misspelling sometimes.
