Good morning. How do you give yourself a hot oil treatment?

Do you do it before or after washing your hair? I remember getting a few oil treatments from mom when I was younger, but I faintly remember. The oils I have EVOO, and jojoba. Should I mix them or stick to one? Which one? How long should I leave it on for? Thanks in advance- the search engine still isn't working properly.

I did it before washing when I was relaxed.

Now that I'm natural I do oil rinses. I put the oil on the lower half my hair after washing, rinse with hot water ( as hot as I can stand it ) then DC as usual.

Before washing. You can mix oils or stick to one; it depends on what you like. EVOO is heavier than jojoba and may be better for drier, thicker hair. Jojoba, on the other hand, may be better for finer or less dense hair. You can leave it on for 15-30 minutes and wrap with a warm towel or shower cap. Be sure that the oil is not too hot!

The only oils that are effective as hot oil treatments because they penetraitt the hair strand are as follows:
Coconut oil: penetrait's the most
Olive Oil
Avocado oil

jojoba oil will just sit on the strand. Here is a site explaining in a little more detail

You can also put these in your DC's and it will make the conditioner much better.

i do it before washing as a prepoo...i usually put olive oil in a color applicator bottle and then put a cup of water in the microwave until it boils then i take it out and sit the applicator bottle in there for a minute or 2 and then put the oil all over my hair and scalp

ETA: after that i put on a plastic cap and let it marinate for about an hr...

some ppl sit under the dryer, but im scared the oil is gonna start fryin my hair if it gets too hot lol

I do mine on Dry Hair Under Heat Cap for about 20-25 minutes.

Then I follow up with a Co-Wash.

I use whatever oil I have on hand. If I use more than one I mix them together. Slap it on. Plastic cap. Sit under dryer 15-30 mins.
